2. Childhood Friends; King Richard x Gareth

Richard kicked at the tanbark. 

"I didn't expect them to get so upset." It was lucky, he thought, that Gareth had had his back. 

"Of course not," Gareth said, wincing through a black eye. It looked decidedly uncomfortable. He wondered if he was allowed to punish people for hurting his friends. 

"I just wanted a turn with the ball," he insisted.

"So did they," Gareth said, much too reasonably. Richard glared at him, remembered his injuries and was torn between trying to glare harder, because surely the fact they'd attacked Gareth made him right, and trying not to be so harsh, because if it wasn't for Gareth he'd be the one hurt.

"Yes, but everything belongs to me. So it's really my ball, and it's not fair that they tried to keep it from me."

Gareth shrugged, "You don't need to convince me. Though next time, maybe we could just go get another ball? Might stop them from trying to hurt you so much."

"But I have you," he said simply.

"Yeah, yeah you do."
