I genuinely just do not understand people who argue with customer service. If they tell you that the thing you wanted isn't available anymore, or the service you were looking for was transferred to somewhere else, what the hell do you think you're going to gain from disagreeing with that?

Like do they really think that if they insist "but it was here last week!" for long enough, they're just gonna go "lol jk we do have it, we just don't give it to customers we don't respect. But now that you've proven your worth, here you go, enjoy the goods that are rightfully yours."

[I’ve been posting some thoughts for new writers submitting to #literaryagents. Here are some final thoughts on #writing:

1. Stories must propel us toward an ending, but the end must feel like a new beginning

2. How a story makes you feel is as important as how it makes you think

3. Make sure there is a surprising phrase, a standout sentence, a startling image on every page

4. Take your characters to the limit. It’s easier to withdraw from the cliffs edge than keep pushing up a hill

5. Every “minor“ character has a “major“ role in a story you have not chosen to tell yet.

6. Read your dialogue out loud and act out the parts. They are different voices and you need to hear the sounds you have made.

7. Imagine you have lost the first chapter and see how that improves your story.

8. Do not feel the need to tie up every loose end. A story must have an afterlife and an invitation to the reader to imagine what happens next.

9. It requires great effort and skill to write simply. Writing can feel like painting at times, what is layered and builds from strong foundations. If the foundation is full of obstructions, distractions and mess, it will be impossible to layer.

10. The reader can tell those writers who are enjoying the telling of the story. The energy and joy of writing sparkles off the page – even with those darker or more contemplative novels.

So, enjoy, plan, simplify and leave us with an afterlife!]

I theorize that queer people might love the italicized “oh” moment in romance novels and fanfics because we experienced it in real life, when we realized we were queer. We’ve had that moment where all the pieces clicked together and suddenly everything makes sense. We’ve stood dumbfounded as a ton of little things suddenly stand out blazing in hindsight. We’ve realized how obvious it’s been, all this time, and suddenly everything seems different and terrifying and wonderful. We’ve had that seismic shift, learning something that can never ever ever be unlearned. And genuinely, the only thing you can really say is oh.

It’s part of our love language. I will use it in every fanfic I write until I die.

That strange feeling of longing when you are at a train station, in a 24/7 open market, when you are buying a coke from a vending machine, watching the city lights glow from your window, when you're walking aimlessly on a busy street after 5 pm, that feeling as if something is missing in your life and it will never come back although it was never there in the first place; that inexplicable urban sadness.

This is an actual thing in anthropology and urbanism guys!

Marc Auge explained how when we shifted from modernity to what he calls "supermodernity" we ended up creating "non-places". They're the opposite of place, as in they're places with no real identity, and have no real emotional connection with the users. They're there to fulfil a specific need and that's it. It's places like gas station, metro station and supermarkets, places where you go and you feel so detached, like everything is out of place. (The name of the book is  "Non-Places: Introduction to an Anthropology of Supermodernity" it's really interesting)

Rem Koolhaas also has a similar concept called Junkspaces, which are basically spaces that are born out of a capitalistic lifestyle, where everything is about selling and being bigger and more. Like malls and airports, and most big buildings. It's places that are empty, that tend to cut you off from the outside world and have no real connection to the users other than functionality. He also talked about the struggle of identity and city planning in Asian cities specifically in his essay "the generic city" and talks about how a lack of identity can lead to "empty" cities and this "urban sadness" op was talking about
