Do you think, in re: Lesbian Beach Ghost, it would be too difficult to make a bathing costume? (Perhaps a better question is if one could even find a pattern for it.)

Would you go full accuracy and make it out of cotton? Or would you be interested in something like attempting a bathing costume with spandex? You have me so intrigued by this idea, and quite frankly, I was sold at Lesbian Beach Ghost, so.

I've desperately wanted a proper bathing costume for years, so this was an interesting POV to see!

So, historically accurate for a Victorian bathing costume (since that's the era I tend to default to) would more likely be a lightweight wool, actually. Seems counterintuitive given our common associations with wool being quite a heavy material, but lighter wool fabrics do exist, and it was the most popular material for bathing outfits for several decades.

Izabella Pitcher of Prior Attire has made a bathing-suit from the 1860s, as well as a specialty bathing-corset (skip to 8:45 in the linked video). Hers doesn't have a skirt, but almost more resembles modern pajamas, and skirted bathing costumes of the time are invariably unromantic to my eyes, with short skirts over voluminous trousers. And our conception of a "swim dress" today usually seems to be a skater dress sort of thing over bare legs, with little bearing on any bathing garments worn in history.

The Lesbian Beach Ghost would more likely be wearing...I don't know, some sort of semi-fantastical long bodiced petticoat, which I realize now wouldn't be too practical for swimming. Hmmm. Perhaps back to the drawing board on that one? I don't swim a great deal- though I can swim -so I have time to consider.

Yes, it's a bit dated. Maybe he wants to give the impression of solidity, because as an attorney, that impression is kind of his lifeblood. And it doesn't matter anyway, because that MF pulls it off. I don't know how he does it, either, but he does. You don't think that's one of the things Carter loves best about him? Please. Dude didn't even know he had a moustache kink until he met Ferguson. It makes him a little sweetly behind the times, and quite frankly, it's so clear that Carter would be find it completely endearing. I mean, it's not like it's going to be Ferguson's sparkling personality, right? Sure, Carter might also enjoy strolling in graveyards whilst receiving personally validating information--who doesn't?--but honestly? He just couldn't say no to that moustache.

And we all know it. This is blatant moustache-loving-Carter erasure. What, like the tropical fish are going to be in a brotp with some non-moustachioed man? How dare you, madam.

(all of this is tongue-in-cheek in case it didn't come across)

God, you know what? You're right. You're so right. How could I discount the 'stache like that?

I don't usually do this, but your writing is brilliant and I've already read Talking Bird twice in like a month. My favourite part? You used myriad correctly! (I'm dead serious about this.) My second favourite part? Is it too vague to just sort of gesture to the whole thing? I've been reading and writing a long, long time and your work has been a rare treat. Thank you for sharing it with us. :)
