Just finished the first of three volumes of the bio of Winston Churchill. This volume (883 pages, published in 1983 and covering the period of 1874-1932) is vast: it addresses not only the life of Churchill in those years but also the Victorian times, fin de siècle, India, South Africa, Sudan, the Arab Revolt, World War I, the Russian Revolution, the Middle Eastern Problems, the Irish Question, the Indian Independence, the decline of the British Empire, and the rise of Nazi Germany.
