I don’t believe you can be too over the top for a @hauteandfreddy show, so I did my level best to reach peak look last night. Felt hella emotional packed into a teeny theater with hundreds of other weirdos and freaks, and whatever else these two brilliant and delightful artists write songs about. An excellent way to start off pride celebrations.
This iteration of The Wedding Present is still kicking out violent washes of guitar, machine-gun drums, and those heart wrenching angsty lyrics. They are the first band Bea sees in my book and Brassneck sets the tone for the rest of the book - I flubbed by camera so I didn’t catch the lyrics on video:
“He won’t object! Keep writing to me
Just don’t forget you ever knew me.”
Little Simz is one of the most important voices of our generation. She is an amalgamation of what London is and what Britain could be. Brave, honest, passionate, authentic, vulnerable, and an absolutely brilliant artist and poet who unabashedly takes in influences from across the spectrum and creates something new, unique, and inspiring.
She’s our Lauryn Hill. Our Bob Dylan. Our Patti Smith. A mirror to our times. And god can she make a crowd move.
The atmosphere at The Summit was so utterly joyful, on stage and in the audience, the pinnacle of a perfect gig.
Throwing both your arms around the world and telling us to that it’s all going to be magnificent. As expected I danced laughed and cried, waved my arms in the air, and remembered seeing these lads 20-odd years ago when they were just scruffy babies on their first US tour and Guy had lost his voice, so they did Elbow karaoke and then we took them clubbing. They’ve come a long way and done so so good. I needed some uplifting northern warmth this week and they always make the world look a bit more golden. @elbowofficial #theleilagigs

Nick Cave, the man that you are, and your Bad Seeds. An epic, cinematic, moving experience. No opener, started promptly on time at 8:15 and went straight through 11pm, astonishing energy and emotion the entire time. Really wish I could have gotten a photo of guitar/violin demon Warren Ellis, but he was hardly ever in my line of sight.
