I wonder..... Which book is the better to read and know more about them?
This is what I’d recommend...
If you wanna read the actual diaries then Nature's Domain: Anne Lister and the Landscape of Desire (J. Liddington); Female Fortune: Land, Gender and Authority: The Anne Lister Diaries and Other writings (J. Liddington); No Priest But Love: The Journals of Anne Lister, 1824-1826 (H. Whitbread) and The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister (H. Whitbread) are the best ones in my opinion (very little commentary, lots of extracts from Anne’s diaries). If you wanna know more: [x] [x]
Interesting reads that talk about Anne Lister: Gentleman Jack: The Real Anne Lister by A. Choma (the companion book, good to start, covers 1832-1834); Presenting the Past: Anne Lister of Halifax, 1791-1840 by J. Liddington (to know more about the diaries and how they were discovered) and this dissertation [x].
If you’re interested in the Ann(e)s then I’d say Nature's Domain and Female Fortune are the best ones to start with + the companion book.
