"This sure doesn't feel enlightening"
I killed a Buddhist monk once. For a guy who's philosophy was "life is suffering", he sure didn't enjoy the blowtorch...

To kill is to be
You can squash a fly.
They’re pests, right? Well, it is easy to reach out and hit one with a rolled up paper, whether out of anger or just plain old spite. You never think of the life you ended, because it is “just a fly”.
But if you can kill a fly, you can kill most bugs. Us humans don’t seem too fond of the “creepier” side of the animal kingdom. Besides, we’re bigger and stronger and they annoy us, right? We justify it.
So we clap our hands over the fleeting moth, and watch it fall to the floor: a spastic golden twitch of a creature, now that it’s body is broken. We crush the spider. We salt the slugs and powder the ants. We think nothing of it.
I always wanted to kill things, and if you can kill an insect, you can kill a dog. It may seem a leap, but once you get past your fuzzy childhood perception (if you have one) of “man’s best friend”, they’re really quite fun to kill.
I haven’t killed many humans yet. But I enjoy it, and there is plenty of time. And I know I’m not alone.
Us killers are the Apex predator. The lone wolf, the great white swimming through the schools of oblivious fish.
We’re your Doctor. Your mailman. The smiling friend and the bitter enemy. Your wife, your son, and the perfect stranger you let into your bed. We are all around you, all of the time.
And we are oh so hungry…
