After her mother’s death, a girl in a band (#TheStains, with her sister and cousin) go on tour with an aging glam rock band #TheMetalCorpses, and an up and coming punk group from Britain #TheLooters. Omg - young everyone! It was interesting to see The Stains take over the “prime” seats on the bus as the tour went on, as Adler said in his commentary they all embody several different epochs of musical history - groups from the 60s/70s hanging onto that one hit but who are actually good musicians, groups trying to take their 15 min of fame at home and make it in the US, and the garage/girl bands, and raggae if you add the driver. The interview with the aunt went better than I thought it would, and i liked her more after that than the phone call in the beginning, nice to include the sister, #ChristineLahti👌🏼. Congrats to Alicia Meeker! and gaaahhh it was all your fault Billy! But did The Stains (of any of the other bands) not have any other songs? #DianeLane and #LauraDern, in their commentary, said this movie was a real-life inspiration for a lot of girl bands, so now I wana go listen to some Riot Grrrl music. And members of the Sex Pistols who were in the film (#SteveJones and #PaulCook) were telling the girls, who were 15 and 13 at the time, to not do drugs like a year after Sid Vicious’ death, they both said this movie was also a total time capsule. Fun Fact: a lot of the band members were singers who were acting, and the girls and #RayWinstone were actors who were singing. And the last music video scene was filmed two years after everything else because of MTV. Lou Adler also mentioned that he turned down directing Airplane to direct this (thank god!) and that #MarinKanter still sends him christmas cards.
