17. Our characters share a lucid dream.
Nick had never once had an experience quite like this. Not with anyone. He’d never shared a dream. And he hadn’t been try. Maybe he just shouldn’t have fallen asleep with his arm around her shoulder.
Maybe touching her was what caused him to share it. Even if it was highly unlikely that that was the case. The gods were probably going to involve in whatever complicated business that Annabeth was always involved in. Whether an intense amount or just from the sidelines.
Apparently he was going to take a bigger part in the life of the girl he considered to be like the daughter he never got to have.
Maybe this was all due to the fact he’d said yes to the devil. The fates hadn’t got their chance to cut his string of life. They really should have. But the world said he was needed and this was likely part of the reason.
The dream involved a— what even was that? Nick couldn’t for the life of himself figure it out. But it was huge, and it wasn’t pretty.
He looked to his right to, very thankfully, see Annabeth. She looked shocked to see him there. It was apparent that this probably was not good. At all.
The creature didn’t seem to notice either of them. But regardless he stayed as silent as he could. Only speaking to ask Annabeth what was going on.
She didn’t. Not yet. Maybe not from this dream alone. maybe they wouldn’t know until much later.
The monster, if that’s what it was, began to speak to an invisible being in the room. The being was a woman. Somehow familiar in its way, yet he was positive he didn’t know who it was.
He looked back to the demigod he’d almost forgotten was there with him. She looked distressed. Understandable. From what she’d vaguely told him, these dreams always had something terrible to follow.
The invisible woman spoke of demigods and gods, well, a goddess, specifically Athena. Which more than clearly meant that this was going to involve Annabeth. They spoke of how to trap and possibly kill them. And, of course, there was talk of taking over the world. What else did people— err, things like this ever want.
He moved closer to Annabeth who was now more than terribly distressed, wrapped his arm around her shoulder. “I’m sorry,” he whispered in an attempt to possibly put her at ease if only slightly. Even with the other friends, he would make sure she knew that she wasn’t completely alone.
It was about then that the both started awake and Nick looked completely shocked, extremely concerned, and at least a little bit terrified.
"Excuse my French, but what the fuck was that?!"
//did I totally BS this and make it more Percy Jackson oriented? Yes, yes I did.//
