Theme Setup
To edit the theme after installing, go to Edit Apearance -> Edit Theme.
If you want to use Crimson Pills as the theme for mobile, scroll to the bottom, click Advanced Opitions and disable Use default mobile theme.
Changing some options might cause the preview to break. The best way to see how the blog really looks, is to keep your blog open in a separate tab and pressing ctrl+F5 after saving a change.
For clarity, all theme options below are bolded and in [brackets].
Background
The theme has a tiled [Background]-image with a gradient overlay. This can be changed to anything, but seamless patterns are recommended.
To change the overlay transparency, change the value of [BG Opacity Top] and [BG Opacity Bottom]. 0 represents full transparency and 1 represents full opacity.
Title
[Blog Title Font] is inherited from your global [Title Font] (those at the top, for display in the tumblr dashboard), but can be changed independently. The color of this font is changed via [Blog Title Color]. For those fonts where both are available, you can switch between bold and normal [Title Font Weight].
The font-size of each row is automatically adjusted to fit the [Title Width].
If there are mupltiple words in your title, the number in the [Title Row Treshold] will decide how many letters are allowed to combine on each row.
The title font is used for displaying text titles one the permalink page. It is also used to display the tag-name under the blog-title on tag-pages. However, the color of this text is set independently via the [Tag Title]-color option.
If you just want to diplay a logo and no text-title, disable [Show Title].
Logo
The theme comes with a decorative red [Logo], which you can remove if you don’t like it.
Tumblr doesn’t allow svg-uploads from the control-panel, so it has to be a normal image (png recommended). If the logo has an alpha-channel - that is, transparent parts - it will cast a shadow that follows its outline.
If you upload your own logo, you have to define [Logo Width] (max 500) and [Logo Height].
To get the proper logo height, find out the height and width of your source image. Divide the original height with the original width, then multiply the result with the number you’ve set in [Logo Width] .
You can also adjust the [Logo Margin], to change the ammount of space below the logo.
Description
Your stadard Tumblr descriptions is shown in a box below the title/logo
If you disable [Show Avatar], the text will be centered in the box.
You can change the [Presentation Font Size], [Presentation Text]-color and the [Presentation Background]-color independently of anything else.
Colors
There are two site-wide color-schemes: menues and text-bodies.
The [Menu Text Color] and [Menu Background Color] are applied to menues, headers, footers, the permalink-page info-bar and the “show more”-buttons on the permalink-page. It also applies to the titles of text posts in your index-page. Keep in mind that the white Like and Reglog-buttons will allways be shown against the [Menu Background Color].
With the exeption of quotes. the text content of you posts is controlled by [Post Background], [Body Text Color] and [Body Text Highlight]. The last of these inherits from your global [Accent Color].
Finally, the color of quote posts is changed via the [Quote Text] and [Quote Background] color options.
Fonts
The [Text Body Font]-options allows you to switch between browser default fonts for Serif, Sans-serif and Monospace. You can also change their size in the [Body Font Size]-text field.
The [Menu]-font is applied to menues, headers, footers, the permalink-page info-bar and the “show more”-buttons on the permalink-page. Size is determined via hte [Menu Font Size]-text field.
For text- and link- titles, as well ass quotes with less than 250 characters, the theme uses javascript to split up and fit the text to a specific width. To make this as fast as possible, it first checks if the browser has the font ‘Impact’ installed and uses that. If Impact is not installed, it loads the [Post Title Fallback]-font (default is ‘Atlernate Gothic’, since it’s similar to ‘Impact’).
If you want to use the [Post Title Fallback]-font for all visitors, enable [Custom Posts Title]. You can also change the [FB Font Line Height] to fit better for any font you might choose.
Quote posts also uses this font-fitting function on the permalnk page. However, for posts longer than 250 characters, it uses the browser deafult ‘serif’ font (Like ’Times’ or ‘Times New Roman’).
Theme options
[Endless Scrolling] loads posts from the next page when the visitor reaches the bottom. Switching it off will display pagination under the menu-bar at the top. On mobile however, endless scrolling is allways on, since pagination takes up too much space.
The [Rounded Corners] on posts and presetation are optional.
[Big posts] are 500px wide while the default small posts are 250px wide
Big posts also include captions without the need for a click, so if you write alot, this could be a good option.
Categories
For each category, you can switch between big or small posts, via the [Category X Big Posts]-option.
When you add something in the [Category 1] text field, it will create a link to this Category directly on the menu bar. If you then add [Category 2], they will form a dropdown under the [Category Label].
Write the category name how you actually want it to look. However don’t use double quotes (”)! If you absolutley want to use those, using two single quotes (’) will look similar in many fonts.
If you notice that your cathegory-name dowsn’t fit in the dropdown, increase the negative numer in [Categories Dropdown Margin] (default -15px)
You can also write a description for each cathegory, in [Category X Description]. It will show up in the same box as your normal blog-description. Use standard html formatting:
<br/> for a line-break
<p>text</p> to create a paragraph with extra space above and below
<a href=“http://webpage.com”>link itle</a> to create a link
<strong>text</strong> to create bold text
<em>text</em> to create italic text
etc…
When you’re done, you just have to tag posts with the category name, and they should appear in your category-page.
Disqus
If you haven’t already, go to https://disqus.com/ and sign up for an account.
Then go here to create a new “site” within Disqus. Click through the page about ads (they are optional and this theme has no support for them), click tumblr as platform, and then copy the shortname.
Now, paste you shortname inte the [Disqus Shortname]-field at the bottom of you theme options list.
