Theme project proposal
For the Theme Project, I will showcase a day in the life of a Student Lab Assistant in the Science 1 Chemistry Stockroom. This essential role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, highlighting how student assistants are crucial for the seamless operation of teaching chemistry labs, both for professors and students. They play a key role in organizing and restocking lab supplies, ensuring that all necessary equipment is readily available and in good condition. Beyond this, student assistants prepare lab materials and solutions for experiments, set up the workspace before classes begin, and ensure thorough cleanup afterward. Their efforts are vital for creating a safe, efficient learning environment, significantly enhancing the educational experience for everyone in the chemistry program.
I am eager to photograph this subject because it represents a significant and consistent aspect of my daily life since I became a student at Fresno State. Capturing this moment will allow me to showcase not only the routine I’ve established but also the unique experiences and connections I’ve formed during my time here. Through this lens, I hope to convey the essence of my journey and the environment that has shaped me as a student and individual. Additionally, I wanted to highlight a lesser-known area of Fresno State, one that many people might overlook if they aren’t directly engaged with it. This hidden corner has unique features and stories that deserve recognition, and I believe that shedding light on it could spark curiosity and appreciation among those who may not yet be familiar with its environment.
In order to authentically convey the essence of the environment of my workplace, I intend to capture scenes that showcase my co-workers and me actively engaged in our tasks throughout the stockrooms. This will involve capturing candid moments as we navigate our responsibilities, whether it's organizing supplies, receiving new shipments, or coordinating the distribution of materials. Additionally, I will focus on photographing the various spaces within both the chemical stockroom and the glassware stockroom. Each area has its own unique character and history, and I aim to highlight the intricate details and organization within these rooms.
As a student assistant, I have access to the various workspaces and can take photos while working between tasks or after doing my tasks. However, to capture real-time scenes of me working with others, I need to obtain permission from my co-workers and supervisor. I'll need to ask if they are comfortable being included in my project, ensuring that everyone consents to being featured in the photos. This is to respect their privacy and keep a good connection between us.
Overall, for this project, my primary goal is to thoroughly explore and document the crucial behind-the-scenes contributions that play a vital role in facilitating scientific education. Furthermore, I specifically intend to shine a light on a lesser-known area of Fresno State that tends to remain underappreciated by the broader community. This hidden gem encompasses unique features and compelling stories that deserve more recognition. Many individuals might pass by this area without fully understanding its significance, especially those who are not directly involved in its operations or activities. By illuminating this aspect of Fresno State, I hope to spark curiosity and foster a greater appreciation for its contributions among those who may not be familiar with its surroundings.
