“Steve..” Sam starts, eyes shifting away from the menu to find Steve’s. He knew what Steve was doing. Sam just didn’t know how to reassure the man who actually looked like someone kicked a puppy. So in the end, he didn’t fight against him on letting him order the food. Holding out the crumpled paper for the blonde to order his own dinner.
“Beef Lo mein and an order of potstickers.“ He finishes, a small smile on his face as he gives Steve a soft pat on the shoulder. ”Thanks Steve.“
“Sounds great. I - ” He looks to the other man, and offers him as grateful a smile as he can. Sam obviously gets what he’s doing, understands what he’s trying to cover. And Steve is just glad he’s letting him do what he needs to anyway. He doesn’t know how to express that except with a quiet, “Thanks, Sam.”
With a deep breath, he resquares his shoulders. “Beef Lo Mein and Potstickers for now. And maybe next time, you can babysit me with the soup and I can learn how to not burn it.”
