Harvey looked up as the front door swung open, releasing a barrage of cool spring air into Harvey's comfortably warm living room. Standing in the doorway was Florence.
"Hey there, kiddo!" Harvey said with a smile, "Have a good day at school?"
Atlas stepped into the room where Florence was slowly waking up, eyeing her for a moment before approaching.
"Now then lil' girly.." He crouched down beside Florence who he had in essence abducted from the dark streets "I've got a wee proposition for ye..".
Oww! [screams and stomps heel down on patrick’s foot] Get offa me!
Well, you ain’t even a boy! You’re a rat!
"Ow!"
He pulls harder on her braid, shaking his foot to try to alleviate the pain.
"If I'm a rat ya ain't 'nything but a fat cow!"
■ laughs
"You’re annoying and just a stupid girl. You also happen to remind me of the silver fish outside. Like… this pretty thing no one can ever hope to touch. But mostly stupid."
The boy stuck his tongue out and crossed his arms.
"You're a monster!"
"I…"
He wanted to argue how he wasn’t. How he honestly was a good boy and in no way a monster at all. But it was hard to do that when a bloody pipe was clenched in his hands.
"They…. they were going to hurt us. I just… I wanted to… please don’t leave."
Jack wasn’t sure how he came to be here. In the fallen ruins of a city that looked so shining out of the windows. Yet, here he was. When he had seen the girl getting attacked, he’d acted without thought. She needed help. Jack could help. And he thought he had. But maybe the girl didn’t like for her assailant to suddenly be viciously beat in the back of a head with a pipe by a young boy. Or she didn’t like blood. Or him. Maybe it was just him.
"I… I’m sorry…"
