I started to watch it because of the gifs you reblog and it’s beautiful and sad and hard to watch, but worth it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a long time

Right? It can be especially jarring at times, but it’s one of those films that really sticks with you.  The animators thoughtfully made sure you feel every ounce of Jeanne’s pain that she experiences with each misfortune wrought upon her, even without explicitly showing it.

She’s sympathetic, but at the same time she’s portrayed as being more than simply the victim in her story. You really come to admire her ability to get back up every time she falls. I love how her compassion towards her fellow villagers and her tenacity to go on despite everything life throws her way inspires the all of the women in her village to stand up and revolt in her stead.

In short, glad you decided to give it a watch! I adore this movie so much, so I’m glad to have the chance to gush about it here!

I have come to the conclusion that a very big number of animated shows centered on cis male characters (from all over the world), which are the vast majority, have found a very efficient way to be both sexist and homophobic at the same time in just one step, and that is by the shoehorned introduction of basic and badly written token female characters to thrust upon any male character who the audience suspects might not be heterosexual

possibly, and time spent with friends is the time not spent with a man so there must be something wrong with the relationship, right?

I think it’s very interesting because it’s something that shows, in a very short time span, how this thing that online activism sometimes generates, of blaming the hardest those who try to be inclusive when they make a small mistake rather than focusing more on the ones who don’t even care or are actually offensive, and the effects that it can have in content creation in the long run. Which is not to say that things shouldn’t be critically viewed, but the level of aggression tumblr embodied in those years was incredibly intense. 

And this thing of people requesting more fandom headcanons of this or that identity or this or that culture and so on is directly linked with the fact that tumblr fandom actively campaigned to stop it at one point, to forbid anyone who did not identify in a certain way to write, research or consult on it, and made people too scared to even try investigating, even to folks who maybe later did identify in the way they were writing, because a lot of times it’s a way of self-discovery, content creation. I remember those posts, those campaigns, it was a hunt. Especially if you were in fandoms that were inherently drenched in anything that had to do with social awareness.

Lex literally was freed by Joker. The guy who was his replacement was laughing. That's jokers laughing gas. Victor knows and has the mother box because his body used the energy to fuse him with the tech (Bruce literally explains that when they discuss bringing superman back? Also he mentions when talking with his father that he won't handle the mother box for star labs to research it.)

you say literally when the new dc film universe portrayal of the joker has not canonically used joker venom™. he’s been portrayed in nolan verse as an agent of chaos with a skill for bombs and subterfuge. and in suicide squad as a gangster wannabe who likes knives and actually has a crime butler. so no pass go card for dropping joker venom™ in a end scene with zero exposition. i actually half believed that that was lex luthor recast tbh because it was more plausible after dawn of justice - it’s just bad writing. he didn’t even have the joker venom™ rictus smile

victor mentions the motherbox and it gets tossed around but victor had teamed up with the justice league and failed to mention he knew where the motherbox was until they were like, hey, maybe we could bring back superman? and then he gets it and steppenwolf has been pretty great at finding them yet he can’t find that one unless he kidnaps star labs employees? like parademons need to interrogate people to find things? that’s the plot? i mean??? one parademons plays good cop while the other plays shrieking demon cop. 

i mean after fighting clark, and the motherbox taken by steppenwolf, the remaining justice league find time to change into different clothes and have a glass of scotch - i mean there is an overwhelming time constraint of the world ending but why not? right?

the script of the film was poorly written. it could have been better. what they chose to keep and put on screen lacked an over arching link that could have been a strong story. instead we get pieces of a word jumble that we’re supposed to follow with a payout that is lack lustre and requires some plot acrobatics to get to the end
