It’s easy to forget how great this city actually is. Most of us are absorbed by our daily responsibilities and it can be easy to take NYC for granted. . . Of course, it doesn’t help to have a rogue President seemingly determined to denigrate the very substance that makes both this country (potentially) and this city (definitely) truly great: an unrelenting diversity. Diversity is as powerful and beautiful as it scary. It can’t really be controlled w/o damaging—or outright violating—something that deep down we recognize as communal, natural and humane.. So it may not always be easy, but we shouldn’t let any political machinations stop us from enjoying and embracing the diversity around us—& by extension, our city. These thoughts came to mind as my daughter and I took in the African Film Festival @ Lincoln Center this past weekend. One of my friends was in the first short film, Little Girl, & I wanted to come support. Congrats Njedika(!) ⚡️You were terrific! Also featured was the music of @wunmi_olaiyaofficial! Coincidentally saw her perform @BamCafe years ago. Wow, If you’ve never seen Wunmi live—it’s a must. . ⚡️ And then it was off to hear the end of the 24-hr live reading of the Mueller Report at The Arc/@dmndr In LIC, Queens. Wild, fun, weird, encouraging, wonderful. Altogether an energizing weekend. ⚡️Thnks NYC! 🚀 #africanfilmfest #wunmi #littlegirl #lincolncenter #themuellerreport #reports #readings #LIC #astoria #queens #brooklyn #manhattan #statenisland #thebronx #artists #actors #concernedcitizens #citizens #democracy #protests #redacted #resist @dmndr #thearc #45 #individualone #justice #muellerlive https://www.instagram.com/p/ByRDwsGn5ov/?igshid=1c34j2kfd7pb6
