#Repost @PenAmerica: PEN America recognizes our current circumstances as a critical time worldwide. In response to these changes PEN America will commence a new program called 'The M Word' to "elevate, amplify and celebrate Muslim voices in America." The series will be funded by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Arts Building Bridges Program with the goal of providing a platform for Muslim artists to speak to both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences. Emphasis is put on this being done on the artists' own terms in an effort for the inspiration and identities influencing their work to shine through. An overdue need, being that diverse Muslim communities compromise more than 3 million Americans alone. In the coming 2 years, PEN America will be looking to bring some of the most bracing, original voices to the forefront. Each program will center on a different genre including: script-writing, fiction comedy, punditry and more.
