A thing to contemplate is in how Knife of Dreams Mat very specifically states a general should *not* be involved in the fighting, but then in A Memory of Light, he dives into a fight to get a 'pulse' of a battle (which is complete nonsense, this is a completely illogical means of getting a sense of what was going on; he literally fought in one specific spot which wouldn't have told him jackshit about anywhere else). Which also completely violates the fact that I think prior to that once he's got the memories he only *once* is truly and directly in the fighting (Cairhein, when it's a matter of he had no real choice).
