•••▪︎ The Heart of the Forest ▪︎••• Can you see it? 🤎 Would you have noticed it or walked straight past? This missing piece of bark in the shape of a heart made me smile so much when I spotted it. After a frustrating morning getting lost in the forest, not finding the exact mushrooms I was looking for, and generally being fed up with this year, I nearly tripped over some tangled up branches and caught myself on this fallen tree stump. Everything was going to be ok 🥰 If you're having a rubbish day, week, or month, I hope this picture brings a smile to your face too. •••▪︎ New Forest Sunrise ▪︎••• Aka the sunrise that wasn't meant to happen.. According to the Met Office it was going to be a pretty dull and grey morning so I didnt bother leaving the house with any kind of urgency to get anywhere for sunrise. As I was driving into the New Forest, I noticed a dark red glow in my rear view mirror, which was obviously amazing, but pretty annoying at the same time. Shnrise and sunset are short here, so I had to find somewhere picturesque asap. Unfortunately I had no idea where to go and I was in a place full of trees.. Somewhere with a pond, or even a puddle would have been nice to get some reflection! My somewhat aimless drive brought me to a tiny pond, but I couldn't get any good angles or compositions (until a bit later). So I decided to just enjoy sunrise and started wandering... When I was almost back at the car, I noticed the sun bursting through the trees opposite the car park. That would have to do. And in fairness, its probably the most spectacular sunburst I ever managed to capture 🤣 If you like my images and feel you're able to support a small business, please check out the shop via my profile. •••▪︎ Magpie Inkcap ▪︎•••
Just one more fun fungus photo, then I'll bring back the landscapes. I stumbled across this curious looking mushroom when I got lost on my morning walk and ended up on a road which I though was the one I parked on, but it turned out it wasn't... I was already in a strop with myself so wasn't really looking for fungi anymore at that point. But something caught my eye on the other side of the road, right on the grass verge. This cool looking mushroom (which apparently isn't related to the red fly agaric, but belongs to the inkcap family instead) stood tall at approx 20cm and was literally sticking out like a sore thumb. I crossed the road for a closer look and decided it needed to be photographed. I tried to do some focus stacking yo make sure the whole of its beautiful hat was in focus. Hope you like it!

•••▪︎ The Fly ▪︎•••
So you know I said on my second outing to the New Forest, I made sure to take AND use my tripod. I wasn't expecting to have such an obliging model to work with! This image would not have happened without patience - and said tripod. I spotted these two tiny and rather perfect inkcaps and got ready to clean my scene, when I spotted the fly on top of the taller mushrooms. Initially I was annoyed and thought about brushing it off, but I decided to set up and focus the camera first. I figure it would probably fly off, but while focusing I noticed that it seemed to be watching me...And it sat perfectly still for a good 50 images! As I was aiming to do some focus stacking, I was bracketing 5 shots and then moving the focus point to different parts of the fungi to make sure my subject was perfectly in focus. And thanks to my patient (or startled...?) new friend, this turned out to be my favourite shot of the day!

•••▪︎ Mini Mushrooms ▪︎•••
You guys seemed to like the mushroom photos, so here's another cute tiny fungi scene from the New Forest. This is a shot from my first visit two weeks ago, when I was too lazy to get the tripod out and decided I can hand hold those slightly long exposure shots.. 🙈 Will post some from last weekend over the coming days I had a word with myself about lazy photography, and used both tripod and focus stacking then 😂

•••▪︎ Bells ▪︎•••
I keep wanting to name this picture Hells Bells, but this tiny cluster of mushrooms really is too delicate for that name. They look like little lampshades in some small creatures living (sh)room 😂 I actually remembered where I'd seen these last weekend and went for another look today. Unfortunately they had already disintegrated and what was left was an ugly mess. And obviously I was unable to find anything even remotely similar to have another go at getting another shot *with* my tripod and some extra lighting this time. That'll teach me for being lazy..

•••▪︎ Frilly Fungi ▪︎•••
If you truly love nature, you'll find beauty everywhere. I was so fascinated with these two mushrooms, I could not just walk past and carry on. And would you believe, as soon as I was down on the ground, getting close and macro-personal with these two, I started spotting their weird and wonderful cousins all around me.
