Tonight I’m happy to bring you a 7” from an Oklahoma band called The New Tribe and it features two new jams, “Elevator” and “Light One Candle”. Now, if you’re thinking this is a real green band to hit the scene, think again. They were hot and heavy on the Norman, Oklahoma scene 20 years ago after cutting their teeth in Houston, Texas (my old haunt!). I’d go deep into their history but frankly, you should read it from their own mouths at http://step0utside.space/inside/a-homepage-section/ From my perspective, this is a really fun “double a-side” 7”, as they call it, and it makes me think of fun, free-spirited music you might crank at a summer bbq or chillout session at a park somewhere. Their Bandcamp page (http://thenewtribe.bandcamp.com) lists the following genres: alternative cosmic american music new hippie disco psychedelicana San Marcos and well, I would have to agree. It’s funky, it’s a blend of so many things you’ll find comfortably familiar, and it truly sounds like nothing I’ve heard before. (That’s a good thing!).
