Eros wasn’t lying - the great warrior Thena was truly beautiful. But he had noticed something else about her: an age-old distance in her eyes, and the Titan suspected he knew what it was. Nobody knew what caused the Mahd Wy'ry, why some Eternals broke under the weight of their suppressed memories, but just as they were not fated to repeat the cycle of destroying planets, they were not fated to live with madness. So after dismissing Pip, the prince sought Thena out.

he has to say ; the rare visits he gets with thena , are the only visits that he enjoys. living centuries with his love , and having to lie to her every day , get’s more and more difficult by the day. but thena brings none of that , it’s a rush of relaxation ; as if she’s brought the ocean to his doorstep and allowed him to drown in it. they always end up sitting somewhere empty , desolate as if their souls need to be reflected by their surroundings ; the guilt tearing away everything but the necessary vegitation. what needs to remain alive to keep sersi and gilgamesh happy because that’s all that really matters at the end of the day isn’t it... the happiness of their loved ones. and by extension it always upsets him he has no idea how the rest of them are doing. sometimes he wants to know more , sometimes he just wishes they could let them know and be over it. between ajax , thena , and himself ; it’s not like the others would have a choice in what happened to the earth at the end of the day... not telling them ; felt cruel. 

she was right though ; her voice cuts right through his thoughts like a knife , she always knows what to say to get him to recenter himself and focus on the goal. they just have to make it through the planet. if they make it to the end ; and the deviants don’t rise up again and kill them all.           he nods , it’s a quiet but firm motion.           “ nothing about us is. ” it comes out sounding more of a joke than he means it , but the tone of his own voice makes him smile because it brings kingo to mind and all the intricate ways that sprite twists and presented their supposedly heroic tales to the humans creating this strange fantasy about them. one that he wasn’t even sure how to explain. but it made him feel at home. and that was enough.

she’s quiet, focused, and fights the frown that wants to appear on her face. of course, she isn’t mad or anything, but she doesn’t like it when any of them get hurt, it frustrats her even when she’s not saying it; even though she knows that is part of their mission. sometimes you just get hurt. these are the moments she is most grateful to be the healer, to be able to fix it for them.    “ you have to be faster next time. ”    ajak carefully says as she works the healing energy over the other woman’s arm. threads of gold shimmer between them, healing and finally, when all is done, she pulles her hand away only to cup thena’s face.    “ fortunately, you’re a sturdy one, my dear thena. ”

“SEE,  IN  ANOTHER  TIME,  I  WOULD  SAY  YES,  100%.“  bad  idea  now  really,  doctor  said  to  take  it  ease  (  as  if  he  ever  listened  to  what  his  doctor  said,  really  ).  considering  he  is  currently  wearing  his  armor  and  using  the  suit  when  he  was  told  not  to?  yeah,  he  has  no  regard  for  that.  but  maybe  a  sparring  session  against  an  immortal  being  is  not  the  best  to  let  him  heal  up.  “I  would  exchange  you  one  sparring  session  for  me  being  able  to  see  your  spaceship,  how  about  that?  it’s  for  science.“  and  sure,  he  might  be  one  of  earth’s  mightiest  heroes  but  he  is  also,  a  mechanic,  an  engineer.  one  of  the  brightest  minds  in  the  world,  if  he  is  being  humble.  “and  i’ll  show  your  friend  phastos  the  new  element  I  found.“  fingers  tap  twice  the  arc  reactor  on  his  chest,  nano-technology  making  the  iron  suit  disappear  as  he  is  show  as  he  is.  tony  stark,  flesh  and  blood.  “sweet  deal,  right?“

“YOU  ARE  NOT  GOING  TO  TEACH  MY  KID  BATTLE  TACTICS,  THENA.“  but  he  is  smiling  more  than  anything.  the  kid  in  question,  his son,  is  slipping  at  the  current  moment.  he  smiles  with  ease knowing  well  that  the  kid,  alike  him,  seems  to  sleep  through anything.  “spoil  him  all  you  need,  but  no  strategic  warfare  until  he  is  10.“  another  jab,  aware  that  if  he  is  his  son,  the  kid  will  want  to  learn  sooner.  “you  and  gil  can  babysit  together  if  you  desire.“  probably  not  the  best  idea,  ajak would  say  it’s  all  brawl  and  no  brains  but  thena  is  known for  her  wise  words.  it  would  be  fine.

                    plotted starter

                  atalanta’s   house   is   clean.   probably   for   the   first   time   in   months.   there   are   no   stray   projects   littered   around,   nor   the   unseemingly   view   of      take   out   food   containers.   atta   could   often   get   lost   in   her   work.   trying   to   solve   the   conundrum   of   mahd   wy’ry   without   the   implications   of   the   current   solution.   she   paces,   twilring   one   of   the   silver   fingers   on   long   slender   fingers.   when   she   hears   the   knock   at   the   door   she   is   quick   to   answer.   she   doesn’t   look   up,   or   speak,   but   instead   wraps   the   other   tightly   in   her   arms.   “   it’s   good   to   see   you.   ”   she   breathes.   feeling   as   if   she   can   feel   the   moment   of   silence   build   around   them.      it   had   been   so   long   since   they   were   together.   since   they   had   breathed   the   same   air.   atta   sniffed   and   it   takes   a   moment   more   to   fully   untangle   herself   from   the   closeness   with   thena.   “   welcome   to   my   home.   ”   she   says,   a   hand   gesturing   at   the   walls   full   of   artwork   and   knicknacks   behind   her.   of   stars   and   planets   far   off.   of   everything   she   missed   so   dearly   from   the   life   she   used   to   live.

                   starter call

               makkari   hadn’t   expected   visitors.   holed   up   in   their   ship   with   her   books   and   artifacts   from   their   lives.   she   had   collected   a   few   just   for   herself   too.   nothing   anyone   would   miss.   a   few   paintings,   or   tablets,   inconsequential   in   the   grand   scheme   of   humanity.   it   was   one   of   the   benefits   of   being   fast   enough   to   slip   in   and   out   of   places.   she   could   live   parallel   to   humanity   without   having   to   grow   closer   to   the   people   and   things   that   occupied   it.   instead   drinking   in   the   knowledge   of   them   from   what   they   created,   and   wrote.   it   was   a   different   kind   of   knowing.   she   looks   up   to   see   thena   though.   a   face   she   hasn’t   seen   in   centuries.   and   how   they   have   felt   like   a   blink   of   an   eye.   the   corner   of   her   eyes   crinkle   as   her   smile   widens.   it’s   been   so   long,   her   hands   move   swiftly   before   embracing   the   other   in   a   quick   hug.   it’s   good   to   see   you.

“thena .”     he’s  hesitating  to  leave  the  domo ,  even  when  he  made  his  intentions  quite  clear .     kingo’s  voice  didn’t  stutter  when  erasing  himself  from  the  picture :     his  principles  were  strong ,  he  had  faith  in  the  celestial’s  mission  to  make  our  universe  and  billions  of  new  life  forms  bloom .     but  his  love  for  the  family  that  has  put  up  with  him  for  so ,  so  long ...     that  was  something  no  superior  force  should  dare  to  confront .

they  did  what  they  were  told ,  and  this  time ,  he  would  not  partake  in  breaking  the  rules ,  nor  breaking  theirs  &  his  own  heart .     he  frantically  waves  a  hand  towards  karun ,  who  happened  to  still  film  when  thena  followed  the  pair  down  the  hallways  of  the  spacecraft .     he  doesn’t  need  to  speak  to  ask  his  assistant  for  a  moment  of  solitude ,  with  the  goddess  of  war .     thena ,  one  of  the  women  he  most  admired .

“if  you  think  i’ll  fall  for  this ,  i  won’t .”     his  head  leans  into  the  touch  of  her  deadly  hand  nonetheless ,  sad  smile  painted  on  strong  features .     “i  don’t  want  to  hurt  you  guys ...     and  i  don’t  wanna  betray  myself  either .”     he  lets  silence  fall ,  careful  when  moving  forward  so  his  forehead  rests  against  hers .

          “i  can’t  fight  this  battle ...     you  know  this .     but ...     avenge him .     none  of  us  has  the  right  to  stop  you .”
