There's a possibility that HBO might have the right to show it first like other recent co-productions (Gentleman Jack, Chernobyl).

also it’s a massive production - certainly more expensive than gentleman jack, probably more expensive than chernobyl
the bbc will probably want to see their money’s worth sooner rather than later

Are people criticising that scene and blaming Moffat? I knew that would happen.
It’s just super odd when it happens in the context of Chibnall taking over. So you get a fair bit of complaints about Thirteen’s first scene followed by “thank god that guy isn’t writing Doctor Who any longer” and it’s like... nooo.

Moffat did it to have Twelve look at his past self and decide to become a woman as a kind of reaction, as a sign of growth because he's like "nah fuck that". I understand why, and respect his intentions, but I definitely think he took it too far, since One might have been a bit sexist from time to time, but never as much as he was portrayed in the special.
I really don’t think it was about an accurate representation of the First Doctor in particular... but I still think that it was mostly a good idea executed in a flawed way. Twelve’s and Bill’s reactions were the stuff of legends, but there were too many of those sexist remarks and often they came across too hamfisted to me. The repetition about cleaning the TARDIS in particular seemed like Moffat - as a man - almost struggled to come up with examples of casual sexism. (Although I loved that sense of camaraderie between One and the Captain... that really was reminiscent of every time I’ve seen men bond over sexist comments.)

The way that Capaldi plays it, at least, it felt to me less like a critique of the show's past and more like a story about how you can sometimes cringe looking it back at the problematic person you used to be. Like, Moffat's grown a lot as a person in the last few years so it may even be a personal thing for him? Cringing at his past self?
I understand it as a general reflection on progress, yes. In a way, it’s the less sophisticated counterweight to Twice Upon a Time’s exploration of who the Doctor is. He is kindness, mercy and hope. And he’s a flawed fictional character created by flawed people in flawed times... and Steven Moffat is very much one of those people. Doctor Who is growing with the times and Chris Chibnall taking over and casting Jodie Whittaker in the role is a huge step.
...I’m still not quite managing to articulate what I think the intention and the effect is, but I’ll get there eventually.
How bad is it that you didn't even have to mention the name of the show for me to know exactly what you're talking about. I'll be throwing a party of one when that garbage is finally cancelled. Can't believe how much time I wasted on it.

thank you. i’m fine with it (for now at least) - i don’t regret anything i’ve said against roberts and his gross transphobia, so i’m ready to deal with whatever crap his supporters wish to throw at me. it just throws their true hateful faces

Isn't that what it is always like? I've never been there, but the impression I've got from others is that it's nothing but a pit of negativity.
to a certain degree... yes? but usually there’s also some logic/voice of reason/specks of light, even just a little bit
but these last few days there just seems to be this endless wave of negativity without any breaks or even just a hint of positivity
and it’s beyond tiresome

How about Rose, Christmas Invasion, Eleventh Hour and Deep Breath, every debut story for the modern Doctors.
Oooh that’s a good idea, although they’re all episodes that I’ve rewatched a lot... Could definitely do with a Deep Breath rewatch at the very least though!
