Both of them have parts of their past they're ashamed of and are tormented by because people keep getting it wrong. Both snarky misanthropes on the surface, but softies underneath who desperately need someone close to them they can trust. Both unwilling to let it be the other, but they're drawn to each other nonetheless. Mabel teaching herself ASL. Mabel snapping at Oliver for implying it's because she likes Theo. Theo freaking out that he has a half-brother and Mabel telling him he should appreciate any family he has, as family is so easy to lose. Teddy noticing Theo starting to come home wearing home-knit scarves and gloves. Theo using Teddy's underground connections to help the podcast on research. Mabel and Theo disagreeing on tactics and getting into a huge fight, and Mabel storms out of his apartment. A second later she bursts back in and they start making out.
