I Know Hope Isn't For Suckers, But This Sure Ain't Helping

Out of all the eulogies I've ever had to write in my life, and one is one too many if you ask me, I've tried to be hearfelt, sincere, and eloquent in how I speak on behalf of the 'departed'. I try to keep it personal, because even though I'm speaking for everyone my father always told me that was an impossible feat. Emotion sneaks in, which is why I'm thankful I only have to write this instead of reading it aloud. Some might find this ridiculous and a little dramatic, and it probably is, but I don't care. Television has been a love of mine since I was a little girl. Finding that show that hit all the right spots has always been cause for celebration and as I grew up, my love grew with me. However it's only in the past few years that I've understood Shakespeare's immortal words "Parting is such sweet sorrow." Art is meant to speak to the soul, and as I've learned more and more, television is art. It's symbols and metaphors and stories of humanity and people, and I can't think of a show that did it's job better than the recently 'departed'. I hate writing this like a eulogy but it might be for a while, despite all our best efforts (mine included) Art is also meant to inspire - to change us in ways we didn't even know we needed to. To open pathways in our mind we never thought to travel. I know I keep saying the 'departed' instead of the actual show name, but I'm afraid once I start writing it I won't be able to see my screen through the tears. And no I'm not exaggerating. I'm drawing a deep breath just thinking about it. I have been shaped, cultured, expanded, raised, opened, enraged, depressed, challenged and changed by this show, forever in its debt. Only a great show can hurt and heal you this much. The characters will always sit in my heart and mind, their stories forever untold. I guess I'll just have to use my incorrigible imagination. I'd love nothing more than to go into detail about all this but like I said, its a never ending trail of tears. Finally to the fandom, my dear, sweet, sometimes raving fanatics. I can not begin to describe how much I appreciate you. Having gone through this before I know, for a fact, although the show may end the fandom never does. I couldn't be happier at that. So we gather to say farewell to the final three episodes - ones I hope to be able to get through with out needing a hug. Thank you Girl Meets World, for everything. Oh great, here come the waterworks.

@theowldetective Interesting! I hadn't heard this before. I like it. Care to elaborate what you believe these BMW-goggled assumptions of what their "world" is "supposed to be" are? To me it sounds like the assumption that Riley and Lucas are "meant to be" and that Maya is destined to struggle in life and love (like Shawn did in BMW) alongside them through the rest of her adolescence. I can certainly see her screaming from under the weight of this. Anybody would.

@theowldetective Oh I absolutely agree. I think that Rucas needs some time to realize that what they have is a conceptual relationship that teaches them what real love is. There are a lot of things that need to be shown before they come to that conclusion. That being said, I think Lucaya is absolutely what MJ is going for in the long run because of that. Lucaya is complex and full of subtext. He developed it at an early point, but let it go, because he knew that was the endgame for the show. He placed a perfect set-up for it, and let the characters make awful decisions in season 3 because he knew those characters had to make those decisions to grow properly. He wouldn't just make an endgame couple in season 3 to plan out a season 4 full of happy Rucas moments. He's smarter than that. He knows Riley has to overcome her insecurities, and overcoming the inevitable Lucaya attraction is a part of that. It would be a stop on the way to realizing that Farkle is who it has always been from day one (or at least I hope). Season 2 was the build up. Season 3 was the destruction. Season 4 was rebuilding. That's how I see it. Let me know if you figure differently!

yoooo i was just looking at this gif set of lucas in every episode by @veronicasmar (great gif series btw) and i realized lucas is wearing purple in the last episode! seeing lucas in purple as he watches riley walk away from him is super important as a visual closer for their romantic relationship. if we get a season four, i would love to see more of riley and lucas’ platonic relationship, but having him wear purple, Riley’s color and more importantly, referencing the purple cat which represents the expectations that riley and lucas are cut and dry versions of cory and topanga circa bmw (explained here by @theowldetective) visually represents leaving that arc of the series behind. hopefully we’ll get a chance to see what happens beyond that arc.
