Continues from here ~ @silverknightpiece ___ Flicking up the article it shows pictures of the different types of the plant. Finding the right one Rove tapped on it. “The type that grows on this island has more brownish leaves.” He murmured. “Seems it holds the nutrients more in the roots so the leaves tend to look more like it is dying.” Placing the tablet down taking a sip of his drink he rolled his eyes at the comment of lack of technology in the dorm. It seemed like a very old fashioned dorm which shied away from modern technologies. “I heard about Briar Valley…it's the hot spot for fae…” He mused. “Must be an interesting place to grow up. I guess it's magic reliant over technology would explain why you go to these dusty old books over a simple internet search. If you have a phone you can use your browser on it next time for simple things. Likely find an answer before you fall asleep.” eyes turned to Silver briefly wondering if the other was about to pass out again. Looking back to the books he had gathered for his own course work he tsked. The teachers were determined for book sources only so it made writing up take longer as it required him leafing through the books to find something he could find in seconds only. “I hate old fashioned viewpoints… it's irritating and just makes things more complicated.” He mumbled out loud not even thinking about Silver.
To the person who asked about the live action movie being based on Gonzo Hellsing: i cant reply to your comment directly since i dont know if youre an adult or a minor, but heres a vague for you
My post was in memery. Well, memery and some small thought that while i had been having nothing but negative expectations of this movie IF it happens (movies are expensive and tbh... Hellsing wasnt very profitable. Its unlikely that this will get truly greenlit) the very sight of the word "Gonzo" made me think hey, maybe it'll be "bad like Gonzo was bad" and may end up being "fun bad" (imo).
Frankly, any movie staff members on ANY professional set or coming from professional experience or schooling would be 100% incompetent to base a movie off a technical flop like Gonzo Hellsing. If we got anything from Gonzo it would be the extra characters, and maybe Seras' uni colors. Maybe. 90% chance they'll take as much as possible from Ultimate, since that was FAR more popular. Why would they look at Gonzo and Ultimate and throw out THE MORE POPULAR anime?
Anyone who knows even vaguely how the entertainment industry works knows right off the bat that even intentional mention of the Gonzo anime (which isnt even what it was) means nothing. Gonzo wont get used. Id be stunned to see live action Incognito or even just Helena. If anything, we'll get the supporting extra Hellsing staff and nothing more. (HUZZAH, FARGASON)
While i dont think it'll truly happen anyway, at the moment news is still "new" and people are mostly guessing and having fun with it. Which is the point of a fandom XD. Personally i love seeing the tag lit up so much, seeing people having fun (even if most of us are just cringing together LOL) and nonregulars acknowledging Hellsing at all 💖 then the randos posting all "wow i forgot about Hellsing! Ima reread!" because the news is all over... this effect is great even if the movie ends up being completely fake. I dont care. We're having fun 🤗
@liltree replied to your post “i just found out that Sarah Shahi and Vanessa Ferlito worked on a...”
and vanessa's character was going to be a lesbian! but when cbs didn't pick it up, she slid over to nola to become tammy gregorio so i can't be too mad cbs didn't pick up drew. and nola came through and paired her up with another hot iranian woman.
Omg this reply made me laugh so hard I had to share it with the world. She did make sure Lesbian Vanessa lived and with another hot Iranian woman, no less 😂😂😂
(Srsly tho, Sarah Shahi and Necar Zadegan...Vanessa and I clearly have a type)
hello! i just left you a tag novel about this too, but thank you SO much for your post about the elitism inherent in the law of attraction philosophy. it needed to be said, and you said it so well! hope your night is going well!
Thank you so much for this. It’s been a post I’ve wanted to write for a couple of years now but I never felt like I could quite articulate the difficulty I had with it. And I’ll admit I was hesitant for a long time to speak against such a prevalent magical concept. I think you could say that this post was stuck in my throat; I couldn’t quite get the words out but not speaking felt suffocating.
I’m so glad that this resonated with you so deeply. Feel free to use and share the points I made when it comes up so that your own voice doesn’t get stuck like mine did for too long.

@doesntmakeitalright not quite! Sweden is at a similar latitude to much of Alaska. :)
However your question did make me wonder if Kirsten’s Papa was correct that winter in Minnesota would be colder and snowier than in Sweden. So I looked into it a bit. (More than a bit, I guess). (Sorry, this is going to be long, but climate and geography are pretty interesting to me.)
So let’s formally ask the question:
Was Kirsten’s papa correct? Is winter in Minnesota much harder than winter in Sweden?
We know that Kirsten was born in a town called Ryd. A quick search shows me that Ryd is now a residential area enclosed within the town of Linköping, in the southeast of Sweden. I’ll assume these are the same towns. Then, once the Larsons got to America, the nearest town was Maryville, ten miles away. Maryville is fictional, but Riverton is also close by, and that’s a real town.
The latitude of Riverton, Minnesota is about 46.5 degrees north of the equator. The latitude of Ryd is about 58.4 degrees north of the equator. To put that into more comprehensible terms, that’s a similar distance from Santa Fe, New Mexico to northern Minnesota.
(Both Minnesota and Linköping have a humid continental climate, although southern Minnesota’s is categorized slightly differently as a hot-summer humid continental climate. The rest of Minnesota is a warm-summer continental climate.)
To compare winter temperatures and snowfall, I’ll have to use data from another Minnesota city, Minneapolis, as Riverton (population 117) doesn’t have this information. But Linköping does.
January is typically the coldest month in the northern hemisphere, simply because that half of the planet is tilted so far away from the sun, and the ground has had a little extra time to cool down from the summer and autumn heat. So I’ll be comparing data from January in both places.
Here it is for Linköping:
To sum up: the average high temperature in January is 32.9 F, the daily mean is 28 F, and the average precipitation (snowfall) is not even two inches. The daily mean is most important here since that’s what will give you a good idea of what a typical January day feels like. But note the average high and low temperatures: there isn’t much difference between them.
Minneapolis (Fahrenheit and inches come first in this chart, confusing, I know):
So in Minnesota, the average high is nine degrees lower, and the average low is 16 degrees colder. The daily mean, though, is nearly HALF of what it is in Linköping!
And this chart separates snow and other forms of precipitation, whereas the first chart groups it in with all precipitation (again, confusing, I know, but stay with me). So Minneapolis averages just about a FOOT of snow whereas Linköping averages under two inches of all forms of precipitation!
This might sound surprising and unexpected, considering the differences in latitude. After all, a difference of twelve degrees in American terms means a difference between the mild and arid climate of New Mexico and the cold and deep snows of Minnesota. So what’s going on here? What’s causing the milder winters of Linköping?
Both Linköping and Minneapolis are at low elevations with a negligible difference, so it’s not that.
It is in fact caused by the Maritime Effect. Almost always, locations in the coastal regions end up with a milder climate than inland locations. Basically, temperature of the ocean stays pretty stable, and that tends to soften temperature extremes in the surface air. And there’s less snow in coastal regions and more in higher elevations, as air cools and condenses when it rises. (This effect doesn’t always hold true for lakes; in some locations, lakes can make the climate more snowy).
And Minnesota is situated right beneath Canada, which as we all know is a vast frozen wasteland (just kidding.... kinda.) But Canada does funnel frequent arctic air masses down south, as well as areas of low pressure called Alberta Clippers. Making it far colder and snowier in Minnesota than it would be otherwise. Minneapolis is actually at nearly the same latitude as Portland, Oregon, which rarely gets more than a few inches of snow all year!!! And it’s farther south than Vancouver BC, which also gets much less snow in the winter. But both Portland and Vancouver both benefit from the Maritime Effect.
So.... that was the long answer..... the short answer is.... that while Minnesota is indeed farther south than Sweden, there are so many influences on the local climate that sort of cancel out the benefit of a lower latitude. Kirsten’s papa was indeed correct that winter in Minnesota will be much colder than in Sweden.
