Kintsugi "golden joinery", or kintsukuroi, bringing the meaning of golden (“kin”) and repair (“tsugi”), is a Japanese method of repairing broken pottery with a special lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The philosophy behind this technique is to recognise the history of the object and to visibly incorporate the repair, or restoration into the new piece instead of disguising it.
