Ooh, good one. This took me wayyy too long because I couldn't remember who Squidface was (although I do know his epithet is The Terrible) or whether cats were on the extensive list of Things Fishlegs Is Allergic To. XD

19, 21, 23, 67 for the Pokemon asks. (Also, which is your favorite spinoff game?)

19. My favorite Pokemon game is Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and their remakes, although Sun and Moon is pretty close! While Sapphire wasn’t my first Pokemon game, it was the one I spent the longest with; if I remember correctly, I’d played around 120 hours on it before I left elementary school (and somehow still managed to not beat the game). I remember being in awe at how good the graphics were, at how you could leave footprints in the sand and watch your reflection. 

On top of that, it was the first video game that had a soundtrack that really caught my attention. When I was a kid, I’d play my Game Boy in the living room while my parents watched television, or in the car while they listened to the radio, so I mostly played with the volume off out of habit. But Sapphire? I’d turn up the volume just a little bit and press my ear to the speaker to hear the opening of the rival battle, and stand by the entrance of Route 111 to hear the music before I got the goggles.

21. My favorite legendary Pokemon is Raikou. In those days, I rarely played long enough to see a single legendary, and I was too young to use the Internet, so I usually never found out about distributions until years after they happened. But when I got Crystal, my mom ended up taking it over when I got bored, and managed to get to the Elite Four. However, I’d still borrow it back when I wanted to wander around the Pokemon world for a while. And it was on one occasion that my mom warned me about these legendary Pokemon that were wandering the region and that I should under no circumstances knock them out if I found one.

Naturally, right after she told me that I found Raikou, on the route where Mr. Pokemon lives. I’d been terrorizing the Rattata and Pidgey when all of a sudden this terrifying looking creature appeared. The Crystal sprite was terrifying, and I wasn’t familiar with Raikou’s existence at the time, so I very naturally panicked and threw a Poke Ball, and panicked even more when it fled. Thankfully it wasn’t gone for good, so I saved and put the game down to recover. My mom and I never did catch Raikou, because a few short months after receiving Crystal, a former family friend’s kid stole it and the Game Boy Color I’d picked out for my birthday. But I still remembered encountering Raikou, and when I got Soul Silver made a point of having it be the first legendary I ever caught, even putting down Alpha Sapphire for a while because I was close to the Latias event. 

23. My favorite music track from the games at the moment is currently the Ultra Necrozma theme. I remember being amazed about how gorgeous the organ was, as well as how desperate a tone it gave off as I tried to whittle down its health as it one-hit KO’d my team, only to find you couldn’t catch it. It definitely gave me the feeling of a fight you couldn’t afford to lose, but were losing anyway!

67. My favorite animated adaptation is the Ash Ketchum anime, particularly the movies. I don’t really remember watching the anime episodes while they were airing that much. I think at the time it might’ve been airing on a channel we didn’t always have access to, or maybe I just didn’t know at the time, or had forgotten, or had just been busy doing other things. But while buying the whole series had been out of the question then, my mom did buy me the movies, and that was mostly how I knew Ash. It was quite a shock when I started rewatching the episodes again and saw him do stuff like forget how to catch Pokemon! My absolute favorite movie has to be Pokemon I Choose You the Movie. I caught it in theaters, and I was crying almost the entire one and a half hours. You may think I’m exaggerating. I’m not. 

And my favorite spinoff game? It’s hard to decide, but it’s probably either Hey You Pikachu or Pokemon Blue Rescue Team. Hey You Pikachu was technically the first Pokemon game I ever beat, and I have fond memories of hanging with my own virtual Pikachu, even if the voice recognition wasn’t all that great. And Blue Rescue Team was definitely the game I worked the hardest to beat. I spent around an hour trying to get Pikachu in the personality quest, without a game guide. I kept failing in the Groudon and Rayquaza levels, and usually I would give up if a game gave me that much trouble, but I kept trying, over and over, until I finally beat it-and it broke my heart in return. Thanks, game.

Howdeedoodeethere, here is a second book ask. Your thoughts on the felines of the Archipeligo?

Honestly, if feels too long since I read any of the books, so none of it is fresh in my mind, just fond in my heart. But the cats! The only two that come to mind are Fiddlesticks and then, at the very end of the series, Fearless, that badass cat who sits on Barbara the Barbarian’s shoulder and kicks ass along side of her.

From what I recall, Fiddlesticks was your typical house cat suffering under the living conditions of being a boy’s only/favorite pet whilst living under the same roof as predators who were just kept at bay. What a solid dude, that Fiddlesticks. A true survivor.

Then there’s Fearless, the battlecat, who literally launches himself at enemies and chills on this 6′ft tall Heir’s shoulder on his downtime like a mink shawl. Anyone who’s ever had a cat that likes to chill like that (and I’ve had one in my youth) is truly blessed.

One leaps towards danger and the other endures it.

I love all cats. And I love these cats.

I have some suggestions for your con costume! The fanfare from deltarune (penny whistle), as the perfect sound effect for when someone joins your merry band. Then, Checkerdance! (Ocarina) As well as a recited song from the httyd books, for if you wish to call yourself a bardiguard at the con. If you need something to dance to, give flaming red hair a try. And finally, Bonetrousle on the banjo, for reveling in the moment and showing just how cool you can be! Heh heh heh! (Nyeh!) -potato
