He was spacing out again a little, as the meeting dragged on longer than it was supposed to, because several of the lords just could not seem to agree on anything. He paid attention whenever someone was speaking directly to him, but his thoughts were distracted. They had been lately, it seemed. It had been a little while since Obi had joined his little entourage, but he’d been more distracted for a week or two now, ever since he’d caught a glimpse of him that very particular day.
It wasn’t anything different from how Obi usually was, just hanging out in one of the trees he liked so much, back resting against the bark. But the particular way the sun filtered through the leaves, and caught those golden hued eyes making them almost seem to glow, defining even more those dark strands of hair, the light tan of his skin seeming brighter somehow, in that moment. And his breath felt like it had gotten caught in his throat. He’d been a goner since then. And he was kicking himself for it.
The lords were talking about something that was in fact somewhat important, but it was more his brother’s territory, and his eyes wandered over to the corner where Obi was leaning against a wall. Normally Mitsuhide would be the one here guarding him in a meeting such as this but his other attendant had caught a rather nasty cold, and was being forced to rest. So Obi was here in his place. Blue eyes watched as Obi fiddled with something he had found on the small table next to him. Watched as he picked at his hair a little in boredom, that little sigh he gave, the way his body moved as he stretched a little, and the way his throat moved as he yawned. Obi hadn’t noticed yet, that Zen was watching him, or he didn’t think so at least, but the next moment he heard his name, and he’d been half listening enough to jump right back into the conversation, glancing at the lord who had spoken to him, and offering his opinions on the matter at hand.Â
Focus, Zen, focus. He shouldn’t be letting himself be distracted like this. Obi was his attendant, he was a friend, and he was a man. Not that it was unheard of, or unaccepted, but even so, the prevailing stigma despite the more recent openness to such ideas, was still that people like Zen, should not be attracted to other men. But oh, he was.. He was attracted to him, to Obi, and it was slowly driving him insane...
