hi, I'm not sure if I've already asked this, but did Disney do a different dub separate from the Streamline dub for Laputa: Castle in the Sky? (I know there's like too unnecessary many dubs of Kiki's Delivery Service) All I've seen is the Disney released DVD version. Is there a UK dub that's better?
Hey you! ^^ Oh my, where to begin with dubs. Disney recorded/released their first English dub for Kiki’s Delivery service in 1997, so the only English dubs before then, were the three that were commissioned by Japanese Airlines (so they could show the films in flight) that were made by Streamline. These were for Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbour Totoro. Often you will hear them referred to as the “Fox” dubs, but that is just because Fox released these films on VHS in the USA, but the Fox dubs, are the Streamline dubs. The only other film to have two English dubs, is Arrietty/The Secret World of Arrietty. There was an English language dub made in the UK by Studio Canal, and then a year later, Disney decided to also make their own English language version. The UK version is much more well received than the Disney dub, which is often considered one of the worst of the Disney dubs. Disney have also actually made several versions of a few of their dubs, due to how poorly the original versions were received. There are two Disney versions/dubs of Laputa: Castle in the Sky and of Kiki’s Delivery Service, as they were forced to change them due to the negativity directed toward the original versions.
