BLOG CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENT

*********NOT DELETING, JUST NO LONGER UPDATING 

Dear BVB fans and followers, 

As I enter a new, exciting chapter of my life, I regret to say I no longer believe I can make this blog the best it can be. As it is, it has been stagnant for quite some time, and I feel poorly of that. I have been disconnected to the Black Veil Brides fanbase for sometime, and also Black Veil Brides. This has nothing to do personally with fans or the band, it is just where I am at in my life right now. When I became a fan of Black Veil Brides in October of 2012, I was going through a rather difficult time in my life, and I will always be forever grateful for the strength Black Veil Brides and their music gave me and still give me every now and then today. After being a band fangirl practically since the moment I turned 12, I'm also just exhausted as I approach my 20th birthday. I'm reaching a point where many creative opportunities are presenting themselves to me, and I want to fulfill them wholeheartedly. 

I had been holding off on deactivating this blog for some time due to Tokio Hotel's long-cooking fifth record, hoping a resurgence of the band that effected my life the most would have some kind of resounding/culturally significant return. As I've held my breath since 2010, I'm fed up. Tokio Hotel, I'll buy your new album if its good, but this fangirl is fed up. I will be VERY surprised if you are able to make any major headway in the US market after waiting so long. I'll always love you, but figure it the fuck out. 

I WILL NOT DEACTIVATE THIS BLOG, I WILL KEEP IT UP SO REBLOGGING OF OLD POSTS, LIKE THEPURDYPURDY MEMES AND THE WRETCHED & DIVINE SCREENSHOTS, CAN BE SHARED. 

You've all been good to me, and thank you so much to all of you. Going out as a successful blog for a band with such great messages is a wonderful way to end my teen years. To those of who may be having a hard time in your life, stick it out, it gets better. SO MUCH BETTER. I never would have thought I'd be where I am in life when I was 14 and a sad freshman. Find solace in music, friends, family, and any creativity you may express. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "To be great is to be misunderstood", and I like to hold that quote dear to me. The rock/punk/hardcore or whatever you may call it scene is thriving and well, and we need it more than ever in a world of repetitive EDM and offensive pop songs. Be strong, you are not alone. 

If this post gets more than 30 notes, I will consider posting some ThePurdyPurdy memes before I no longer update. 

Live your young lives before you become a stuffy college student like me. Do things now instead of not doing them and regretting them later.

The internet just changed: Net Neutrality is dead.

The FCC sided with Comcast and decided to let ISPs censor the internet. The Internet needs to stop this from happening: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/tellfcc/

Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.

We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.

We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]

This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

Afghan women defy the Taliban and vote

"The people out there are scared as hell of the Taliban," a U.S. Army officer who recently returned from Afghanistan told the Daily Beast. And given the 39 suicide bombings, countless threats of death and mutilation and the murder of an Afghan provincial council candidate just before the elections, they have legitimate reason to be so. 

However, the imminent danger from the Taliban did not stop the people of Afghanistan from heading to polling stations on Saturday to elect President Hamid Karzai’s successor. It’s the country’s third presidential election since the U.S. led invasion in 2001, and its first time transferring power from one elected leader to another.

In the wake of the horrific Boston Marathon bombings last year, I posted on this blog that I would be figuring out a way to do a fundraiser for those affected. A few weeks ago the gracious folks at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts, asked if I would like to have an art show in their Carol Schlosberg Gallery space. I realized this was a great opportunity to finally put together a fundraiser, one that would actually be near Boston. I had 17 high-quality Image Wizards AluminArte metal, frame-to-edge prints made of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra artwork I have done (some by myself, some in collaboration with other folks on the crews of those shows) over the last 10 years and donated them to the event. 

The exhibition opened earlier this week and is open to the public, and will be hanging until Saturday, May 17th. The gallery is conducting a silent auction for each of the 17 prints, which vary in size but average around 19 x 25 inches. If every piece sells, even without surpassing the starting bids (which were set to the costs of the prints), we would raise $3805 for the survivors, their families, and those who lost loved ones in the attacks. And of course I am hoping we can raise much more than that. Every dollar will be donated directly to One Fund Boston, the charity founded by formed by Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas M. Menino (this is also where the money raised by the Boston Strong charity goes). The bottom photo shows the small-scale proofs of the 17 pieces hanging in the show. I will sign the full-size prints when I get to Massachusetts later this month.

To support the event, on Saturday, May 17, the last day of the exhibition and auction, I will be doing a signing at the gallery (or the room right next door, I believe) from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. It would be great to see your faces there, so if you are in the area, please do come by and say hi, get something signed if you like, congratulate the recent Montserrat art student graduates, see the artwork, and if you can, bid on it! I apologize in advance that I will have to cut off the signing at 12:30 pm, as I will be traveling with family and will need to get back to them at that point. Bidding on the silent auction will end at 5:00 pm that Saturday. Montserrat will notify the winners on the following Monday, and the artwork will then be available for pickup. If any of the pieces do not sell, I will get a hold of them and throw them up on EBay or something so we can see the fundraiser all the way through.
