"Is that medicine suppose to make you feel like you're flying?" (HI there - just tossing this in as an icebreaker ;D)
(Hi there~!)Caleb snorted at that. “It’s not why I gave it to you, but it comes with the territory,” he said with a smirk. He reached out and placed a hand on her forehead, then sighed a little. Still hotter than he was comfortable with, but certainly not the horrifying fever she’d had before. That meant it was working, he hoped… He wasn’t really comfortable with the idea of calling someone in to bleed her. It didn’t ever seem to work as well as they said it would.
“Aside from being a bird, how are you feelin’?” he asked, settling himself in a chair next to her cot.
{Prompt: humming a song quietly under their breath | for @therapardalis}
The sun had not even risen above the tents when Washington made his first round. He walked through camp in a brisk march, inspiring men to lift their heads high and wipe the sleep from their eyes. From the weaponry he went to the hospital tents, then proceeded to greet the newly arrived officers. Before going to meet with the generals — who were late starters and would be grumpy before breakfast — he stopped by the temporary stables for a moment of calm.
A smell of hay and wet fur reminded him how much he missed the farmer’s life. His horse scraped the ground restlessly upon seeing him and Washington patted the animal’s neck to sooth him. He let his hand rest in the mane, closing his eyes for a moment.
Standing like that a melody came to him from a past long forgotten. It was a sound from his childhood, a song someone had sung or played on the piano, but he could not remember any words or the sound of the instrument. It was more like the memory of a feeling — vibrations in his chest, the beating of his heart when the song reached its crescendo, fingers tapping out the tempo. Hunting for that feeling he did not notice that he had started humming or that someone was listening.
Incorrect Quotes Meme for @therapardalis
Simcoe: Miss Landsend, you said you like horses, correct?
Thera: Yes, I love them.
Simcoe: Memo... To self... Don’t poison Bucephalus...
Thera: Pardon?
Simcoe: What? I haven’t said a word.
"No, John, you may not have that sword. It's staying with me!" ( 😉 )
He found it so frustrating when he would hit a snag. Usually, he would persist or find some workaround —and of course they weren’t always good options, considering that he had gotten into trouble for just charging ahead anyway before— but he knew better than to push the issue with Thera. He knew her well enough to know that she would not be changing her mind.
But, still... Could he convince her? Explain that he needed the weapon in order to ensure their safety? Ha! Simcoe knew that his companion more than likely knew how to deal damage with it just fine without him. And if he attempted to say that he needed it for his own protection, well... She would see right through that.
He breathed a sigh of resignation.
“Very well, Miss Landsend,” he said. By God, all this time and he still had trouble referring to her by her first name. “But I am not happy about it.”
"Captain Simcoe? Is there anywhere around here a lady might find a bathtub?"
Simcoe was in a state of disbelief that DeJong would only have a single wash basin to be shared by all of his tenants. Then again, upon second thought, the man notoriously held a firm grip on his purse. It wouldn’t have surprised the Captain if he had learned that DeJong had sold all of the wash basins the Strongs kept at the Tavern except that one when he bought the place.
He considered his words very carefully before he spoke, not wanting the lady to get the wrong idea.
“Well, Miss Landsend… There is always...” He cleared his throat. “I mean to say, if you wish, I can allow you to bathe at Strong Manor. I’m the highest ranking officer billeted there. It would be no trouble at all.”
For the height meme - Thera's 5'8". (Also hi, welcome to the madness 😉)
