Flight Rising Worldbuilding Wednesday! How are the dieties viewed/worshipped in your clan? Since your clan obviously has allegiances to Ice and Fire as well as Light, how does that effect your clan's relationship with the dieties? Is your clan religious? (This is my regular blog, my FR blog is brilliantskyrising!)
Ooh, good questions! Love the URL, btw. :D Let me answer them as detailed as possible. :3
How are the deities viewed/worshipped in your clan?Though it’s true Icewarden, Flamecaller and Lightweaver are prominent faces in the Sornieth Pantheon for the clan, all deities are worshipped by the dragons who were born in their lands or from eggs found on excursions into other lands during the hunt for all things Shade-touched. All members of the clan are allowed to worship the deities as they see fit (or not at all if they so chose!) but as for viewpoints on the deities, they are viewed largely as something akin to parental figures by some and as the creator beings that brought their world and everything within by others.
There are also individuals who enjoy spending time deep in meditation while attempting to commune with their deities. Serenity, for example, spends many hours a day deep in meditation while seeking wisdom from the Arcanist. Helios and Celestia, being a mated pair and touched by two different deities, tend to spend time together in communion while seeking wisdom and understanding from both Windsinger and Lightweaver. Sunshine, while being one of the last remaining of Flamecaller’s children in the clan, works towards bringing her Mather pride in both communion and in her role as the clan’s blacksmith.
Since your clan obviously has allegiances to Ice and Fire as well as Light, how does that effect your clan’s relationship with the deities? From Icewarden the clan was imparted the urge and dedication to preserve the the way that Sornieth was before the Shade came. It was decided that their role and entire sense of purpose was to eradicate the Shade and anything or anyone that it tainted. Much of the core of the clan was brought together in the Southern Icefield at the beginning of its journey and much of the lore and history of the clan was lost on its journey to the Ashfall Waste. Icewarden still plays a big role in preservation with the clan and Chrysta and Lionel seek advice and wisdom from him in leading the clan fairly on a consistent basis.
From Flamecaller the clan learned that change and channeling energies was integral for their purpose and calling. Part of channeling their energies is done in the practice of crafting their clothing, lair-space, armor and other intrinsically important crafts. Another attribute they channel is the passion and fervor they have for their quest to destroy the Shade. They know it’s in hiding and that it can easily make a comeback if it desired to. To this end they seek to strengthen the clan and keep it ever moving forward.
From Lightweaver the clan is learning to uncover the truth and bring it to light. Their secondary mission is to show others that the Shade is still roaming around and that others need to join them in the battle. They learned much about the Shade and want to teach others about how it has possibly been the driving force behind the adversarial attitude many clans and the Flights themselves have displayed.
Their relationships with the deities tends to be fractious at times. Sometimes an unsuspecting clan member will accidentally walk in on a ritual being performed for another member’s deity but they attempt to appease the deity by providing offerings that they think will assuage their anger. Sometimes hatchlings are more easily forgiven in this than the adults are for the fact that they are too young to understand the gravity of what they walked in on. But when it comes to the festivals all members of the clan celebrate them and give thanks to the deities for the patronage and unity they provide.
Is your clan religious? They aren’t very religious, not to the point of being overly devout, but they give a very healthy amount of praise, respect and thanks to the deities for their patronage. They take to heart that the deities care about them and wouldn’t provide what they have given the clan if that weren’t the truth. But there are individuals who are more serious about their devotion to the deities than others and they are still respected as the individuals they are.
