The Library... AfroAcademia
At the heart of Johannesburg South Africa lies a demarcated intellectual space in which the youths of neighbouring cities, townships, rurals, etc gather in an attempt to cultivate their 'passions'... It is somewhat a depressing sight in direct contrast with the 'enrichment and illumination' this space ought to afford. Allow me to qualify - not subscribing to the gloomy skeptic view of the society. We sit side-by-side and I make a quick calculation in my head- we've all got our heads buried in these books but one in six of us comprehends not what they are facing, one in five comprehends not why they are facing it, one in four crams quickly in the fear of failing, one in three comprehends not what to do with what they are facing, one in two simply cruises through driven by the misguided goal of intellectual superiority and one's just looking like they'd have committed suicide by the early hours of the next day... I am unable to walk away from such a reality and not look back, but wait, I can't even qualify my own position. I walk away with nothing but a flood of thoughts, that's just how we go through it!
