xNFPs are some of the most popular types of people within this community, but the two types are often misunderstood. Primarily, INFPs are seen as “emotional crybabies” and ENFPs are seen as “overly-excited manic pixie girls”. In this post, I will mainly summarise the primary functions of both mbti types and also debunk misconceptions and stereotypes. Since my previous post became quite popular, I will debunk <all> function combinations in MBTI, and if I have time I will also go over the jungian combinations like IN(IF) (Ni-Fi, aka ISFP in loop), ET(EN) (Te-Ne), etc.
I am not sticking 100% to Jung’s own interpretations and I included some modern MBTI interpretations. I have not fully read Jung’s works and when I have, I will make posts talking about the types in detail (the book is like 988 pages, I ain’t reading all of that).

Fi: Introverted feeling is a function focused primarily on subjective viewpoints in terms of emotions. Opposite to Te, which focuses on objectivity and the truth outside of their own viewpoints, Fi is determined to understand their personal perception of everything. Fi builds a personal, internal moral compass, one that does not necessarily align with external social values or group harmony. Fi is a judging function (in jungian), meaning it filters experiences through a personal lens of what feels right or wrong, good or bad, beautiful or ugly. Like Ti, which values internal logical consistency, Fi values internal moral consistency and makes decisions based on if the action aligns with their values and beliefs.
How it manifests: It is still a cognitive function related to thinking. Contrary to misconceptions, Fi is often not the “whiny emotionally expressive crybaby”. Fi, as described by Jung, is oftentimes very emotionally distant and has a hard time expressing their feelings. Fi is a rational type in jungian, meaning that the focus is on analyzing subjective values rather than <experiencing> said feelings. Generally, Fi users excel at empathizing on an individual and deep level, rather than a broad social one. Fi prioritizes individuality more than collectivism, making them rebels when their integrity is questioned. Fi usually makes a person who is oftentimes very sensitive to being misunderstood or being hurt. Introspective, deep, and philosophical, high Fi users are often very good at understanding who they are outside of societal expectations and norms.
Behaviors that can exist due to dominant Fi:
Reclusiveness, quietness, refusal to express and explain their feelings. Finds it hard to open up
Fells things deeply. Sentimental, poetic, and introspective. As a great understanding of why they feel a certain way
May appear stoic and unassuming on the outside. However, they have an intense inner emotional life
Can be self-oriented and biased when making decisions, can be stubborn at times and dogmatic with their viewpoints
Has a love for abstraction of emotions: ideas such as love, patronism, passion, loyalty, and pain are appealing
Attached to internal moral code. Indifference to socially accepted morals / ethics
Dedicated to finding their true self and personal identity. Trusts their own intuition and conscience
*ೃ༄Extroverted Intuition*ೃ༄
Ne: Extroverted feeling is a function that values possibilities, abstract patterns, and exploration. Ne craves novelty and open-endness, neglecting the focus on reality or the current state of the world. Ne is a very scatterbrained function: it jumps from idea to idea, lacking focus on any particular idea. Ne is good at spotting hidden connections and spotting trends between abstract ideas. Overall, Ne is the function that generates “what ifs” by connecting dots. It takes one idea/information and generates dozens of ideas/concepts, like a funnel. Ne has a frustration against reality, wanting to break boundaries and seek things that are outside of their current capacities and circumstances. Hating the past and the present, Ne constantly dreams of a future that is not grounded. Ne is very opportunistic: it is a type that has an eye on potential ways the future can enroll.
How it manifests: Ne’s manifestation in behavior can be erratic. Oftentimes, people associate Ne dominants to be sporadic, scatter-brained, and talkative. This is not always true. But what is true is that this is not a very practical type. Ne users are not focused on “seeing the existing stable situation”, as Jung has said, but rather focused on the future, possibilities, and what could happen. Because Ne users are not rational types (leading with F or T), they are highly impractical, oftentimes excited for the future. The most visible manifestation of Ne is the habit of escapism aka. consistently making plans to escape reality. The other is having a dislike towards routines. What I mean is that Ne goes against Si, which tends to favor routines, predictability, and nostalgia. Ne constantly seeks for the new and novel. Adding onto the hatred for routines, Ne also hates restriction. Ne oftentimes makes a very adventurous person, interested in exploration and disliking those who are not open to such ideas.
Behaviors that can exist due to dominant Ne:
Oftentimes has a sanguine attitude towards life. Easily excited for the future, but oftentimes drops ideas coldly after feeling a burning passion towards it. Lacks the ability to commit to any particular idea or goal
Has issues with being concise or explaining their ideas in a concise way. Scatterbrained and random, that is their thinking style. A trivial habit is the tendency to write walls of text without breaking them into concise paragraphs that sort based on main ideas.
Similar to above, Ne users do not know the difference between important and unimportant ideas. Likes the idea of all possibilities being open
Hates rules, regulation, and restriction
Has a liberal look towards life (not always political). Likes change and dislikes people who are attached to traditions and practicality
Curious, adventurous, and excited for what life can be like. Dreamy, out of touch, and dislikes the current reality
