I've been having a discussion recently with a trans individual about me being agender/genderqueer/non binary. They said that because biologically the brain is either male or female, other genders don't excist. They felt that gender was purely biological and those who identified as anything other than male or female were doing so purely because of social norms associated with the two (feeling like they don't fit the "norm" of either.) and that was wrong. Could you tell me your opinion on this?
My opinion is that these people are wrong as fuck.If it were just gender norms I wouldn't have dysphoria(not saying you need this, just that I have it and I use it to shut these kids down)If it were just gender norms dressing more androgynous would be enough for meIf it were just gender norms then surrounding myself with gender non-conforming people would be enoughAnd it's not. Also, there are many many MANY cultures that do not look at gender in the same way as Western Cultures, there are genders outside of the binary. We have existed just as long as binary genders.Although this is not a very good term for NB genders, as there are genderless people and those who feel male and female, or fluxuate, there are records like this dating back to ancient Egypt.(third-gender)So, tell them to eat yo ass.-Mod Virgil
