Tools of the trade

A friend of mine and I were catching up and since he is a law enforcement officer I asked him about Ferguson and what he thought.

Without blinking he pointed to his feet and said

"If that kid was running and was a suspect the officer could and should have run after him, there is no reason he should have been shot from that distance."

Then he pointed at his belt

"The officer had cuffs to keep him back if he was being uncooperative, legal and safe ways to take him down, might have had mace or a pepper spray, and almost certainly had a taser that hits from a distance. There is no reason that young man should be dead. Each and every member of this countries law enforcement is taught that you only reach for a gun when the biggest and the baddest threats are staring right at you."

He then added something even more exceptional

"I just find it funny that the same people who are saying that they need to keep their weapons to be free from Tyranny and the brutality of the police force are perfectly fine with letting the police force skip to literally the last thing you should attempt in a case like Ferguson. Anyone who doesn't think the case is racial should turn away from the details and look at the coverage on fox for five minutes, then I dare you to come back and say that racists aren't alive and well in this country.
