Wanda do you have anymore funny stories about exploring New York
Oh amice.
The sad thing is, most of them were not funny if you were there.
I will say this - my brother decided that it would be a good idea to pick a fight with some squirrels in central park because they ‘stole his sandwich’. He wasn’t actually all that attached to the sandwich either, I think it was more the principle of the thing. It was most amusing at the time, just a shame that this led to the hot dog incident. Both the captain and Stark warned of the street food in central park. I think this was actually one of his reasons to try it. He very quickly discovered his mistake. As did we all. But better him than me.
Soho was a lovely district to explore, and dragut and Natasha and I were allowed some peace to wander the shops there. It was one of the more enjoyable parts of the trip.
Too bad someone spoiled it by picking another fight - with the waitstaff at our restaurant that evening. We cannot take him anywhere.
Just out of curiosity, do you or your brother know about that one erm "special" moment between the recruit and Steve
I don’t think I know to what you are referring, amice, the recruit and the captain have both been very busy of late - the captain with a series of missions away from base and dragut with aiding the recovery of the winter soldier and also in her own return to form following the incident with Krait.
Perhaps you are confused? I am sorry I could not be of more help.
(A/N - if this is about thatonerecruit‘s Steve/Recruit one-shot ‘Static’, that story is actually separate from the main continuity and also exactly that - a one-shot. It’s a part of a series of ‘what if’ scenarios that eventually every pairing will get, but as I said, they don’t play a part in the main story/haven’t actually happened in the main recruit arc, so none of the characters (including the recruit and Steve) will be affected by that story. Sorry guys, hope this clears things up?)
What happened with the Great Empire State Meltdown Pietro won't tell us
Amice, you should know by now that my dear brother is not at all a very patient person. He most certainly does not get along with queues.
It is no surprise that he does not like to talk about this, it was not his proudest moment.
Luckily, I am more than happy to fill in the blanks therecruitsrunner left.
It just so happened that, when we ventured out to the Empire State Building that evening, there was a reasonable crowd of people with the same idea. Needless to say, the prospect of a two hour wait was less than savoury to him. Nontheless, we persevered through the first queue and security checkpoint, and made it to the elevator.
The first elevator.
There are apparently three different sets of elevators, and one set of stairs.
I say apparently because we did not make it that far. After the doors of the second elevator opened to reveal yet another queue, my brother gave up and searched out alternative means of entertainment.
These alternative means happened to escalate from harmless flirting into a full-blown fight and subsequent security lockdown. We were all evacuated and Natasha and the recruit had to sweet talk some very annoyed policemen until Stark, Clint and the Captain arrived. We practised our best shamefaces all the way home. They didn’t work very well (at least, Pietro’s didn’t. I do not think he was especially sorry for the events at the building).
We are no longer allowed “recreational missions”.
And when I say we, I really mean Pietro, but I humour him into thinking it means both of us.
It does not.
It means him.
(A/N - there really are a shed-load of queues and security checkpoints in that building and whoever suggested the twins go there should seriously reconsider their choices. But at least Wanda gets to go out exploring in peace now)
So you and your brother mentioned something to do with memories of 'the station', what was that?
The whole thing was a mortifying experience and I am never going on public transport again if I can help it. I will answer this once, and people may refer to this post in future if they are really curious about it.
Very well then.
therecruitsrunner, I blame you for both this ask and for what follows
The Terrifying Turnstile Incident 2k15
We were taking part in a small ‘recreational mission’ to tour New York City, because one of the others suggested that my brother and I should see the city. No one else could find a reason against it.
So far we had done many of the ‘typical’ tourist activities - we had visited central park (which was lovely until my brother decided to take on the street food just to prove a point and then spent the next hour retching in a wastebin), we saw some of the artwork at the Guggenheim museum (again, my brother only wanted to see how quickly he could run up the central staircase and back. unfortunately), and I spent a lovely time shopping with dragut and Natasha for the afternoon, only for it to be slightly spoiled by my brother taking a disliking to one of the waitstaff at the restaurant. Nonetheless, the next day had promised to be better.
We had decided to visit the Bronx Zoo that day - one of the largest metropolitan zoos in the world. My brother and I enjoyed it very much (he had great fun racing sea lions around the tank, much to the amusement of many of the children gathered there, and the bemusement of the zookeepers), and I think the others accompanying us did too (let us just say that I am fairly certain there are avengers with stuffed animal collections hidden in their quarters).
When it came time to return to our hotel, however, someone decided that it might be a good idea we experience the city’s public transport system - the subway. Up till this point we had arranged to be driven places - either by a taxi or by hired drivers. Which had worked fine, I don’t know why anyone had issue with it.
The most efficient way to get tickets was to purchase a ‘family’ ticket for a few of us to use together, however when it came my turn to scan the it, things became confusing. Natasha was telling me to wait until the recruit and I could go through at the same time because she wasn’t actually sure how many times the ticket worked, and Pietro was telling me to just go through, then they started arguing with each other and by this stage I had already scanned the ticket, so I panicked and just ran through. I thought I was going to get stuck on the other side you see.
Well.
I got stuck anyway.
I got stuck with one foot lodged (rather painfully) mid-air between the turnstile and the gate. At this point Pietro started panicking and yelling for a station guard and Natasha was standing there looking impressed (possibly trying not to laugh) and people were starting to stare and I couldn’t see the recruit properly but I think she was trying to help get my foot unstuck. It was a very trying situation and it took all of my strength not to lose control and cause any destruction. Eventually with a good degree of twisting my foot was freed and I of course ended up flat on my backside on the station floor. By this point many people were staring (some probably attracted by my brother, who was not in any way helping things at all). And you know what?
Do you know what, amice?
The ticket worked again.
It was all for nothing.
I spent the remainder of the return journey in silence. I would only talk to mea draga when we returned. She did not betray me.
But then, at least it was nothing compared to The Great Empire State Meltdown later that evening. That was all Pietro.
(A/N - This essentially happened to me when I visited New York for the first time two years ago. I did not speak to my parents and my brother for the rest of the day (not even at dinner, I don’t think), and it was terrifying. And people were looking at me and it was a very bad experience. Why didn’t we just take the taxi.)
Oh look, my brother is finally answering some people. Too bad he forgot to show up for the dancing lessons he agreed to. Maybe he is finally coming out of the sulk.
therecruitsrunner, what have you to say for yourself, frate?
