They are not representative of the actual temperature.
For the guy who said it was 117 degrees in Van Nuys one day over the summer, your car thermometer is as inaccurate as ours! Every year is the “hottest on record,” even though summers have been getting cooler and milder. Over and over I’ve felt fine in a long sleeve shirt and the thermometer says it’s in the 80s. I can’t wear long sleeves in temperatures over 75 degrees and not sweat. Often our Prius thermometer will say it’s in the mid 90s, but it feels just warm, not hot, outside. I have always been sensitive to heat, so if I don’t think it’s that hot, then it probably isn’t that hot! Worst of all are these exaggerated temperatures in the 100 teens. In LA, even the Valley, this simply does not happen. This is not Palm Springs or Las Vegas! Even in Las Vegas in the summer, our car thermometer read 113, and an outdoor thermometer display read 94 degrees at the same time. If temperatures are in the 80s and 90s in the summer, but we’re told they are in the 100s to 100 teens, is that global warming?
