Big Update
You may have noticed it's been quite a while since my last post. But I have an excuse: I towed my friend's AE86 to Queensland Raceway on Thursday 8th and when we were packing up I sat my camera on my trailer and forgot about it. I have no pictures from that day; they're lost along with the camera.
These things happen I guess. I was pretty unmotivated for a while, but I ended up buying a new camera. I stuck with Canon and got a 115 HS. It was on special for $129, takes good photos and is very easy to use. Perfect for me.
Anyway, enough talk, on to the pictures!
The bench has been complete and it use for a while now. I ended up getting formply for the top and shelf. The whole bench has been great. All up it cost me under $200.
One of the first things I used the bench for was wrapping my exhaust manifold in heat insulation wrap. I chose to use Cool It Thermo Tec products, but there are plenty of options. One thing I can say for sure is that the stainless steel straps are an absolute waste of money. If you really want to use them, do not buy these ones, finder cheaper ones elsewhere.
The actual wrap and paint are great though, and fairly priced. As you can see it turned out pretty good. I ended up using wire to secure the wrap. It was a lot easier to use and looks much better in my opinion.
In my last post I mentioned that the Greddy intake plenum I bought is made specifically to suit a N15 70mm throttle body. So, naturally I bought one.
The photos I took right after unpacking it were on my previous camera so these ones from my phone will have to do. You will notice there's a lot of extra bits on it. I actually removed even more unboltable bits before taking these photos.
I think the extra parts are to do with cold starting. Either way, they're ugly, consume space, and I don't need them, so I decided to remove them. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Much better don't you think? I have the time and patience to make things look clean and pretty. It's not a show car, but I like the idea of it looking good, at least to start with.
Lastly, with the help of a Ross and Shane, I replaced the brushes and bearings in my alternator. It was very cheap and should ensure it operates properly for much longer. I also gave it and my power steering pump good clean, and replaced the puleys with lightened aluminium underdrive items.
This isn't all that has been going on lately, but I'll save the rest for future posts.
