How to start working with an Herb
Plants influence us more than just our physical body. They affect our mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual bodies as well.
As human beings, we are more than our physical form. Our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. There is also your energetic field, through which you are constantly connected to the life around you. Through this field, you both influence and are influenced by the living world.
Our thoughts are one of the most powerful and magical tools we possess. With our thoughts, we shape and create our lives. This creation can be a life lived in connection—with the living world and with the plants that grow around us.
Plants can support and influence our mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual wellbeing. When you build a relationship with herbs and plants, they can teach you a great deal about yourself and about how to shape your life. Through this connection, you learn to listen more deeply to the needs and desires of your body, heart, and soul.
How Plants Reach Out to Us
Plants can come into our lives in many different ways, often appearing as quiet invitations to begin a relationship with them.
Sometimes this happens through the outer world. You may start noticing a particular plant appearing again and again in your surroundings. Perhaps you see it growing along the path you walk, encounter it in a book you randomly open, and later notice someone sharing a post about the very same plant. Often these moments are gentle ways in which life invites us to pay attention and form a connection with that plant.
Another path happens through the inner world. A plant may come to you through intuition, dreams, meditation, or a strong inner feeling of curiosity. In these moments, it is as if the plant itself is reaching out, inviting you to learn from it and walk with it for a while.

When you first decide to form a relationship with any herb, it’s a good idea to do a meditation with it. Spend time with it, get to know it better, how does it make you feel? Is it making you aware of something, what is it telling you? Write, record all your own personal experience with the plant.
You can work with plants and herbs in several ways. They can be used energetically in ritual or meditation, prepared as herbal teas, burned as incense, or inhaled for their aromatic properties.
However, it is important to practice with care and awareness. Always research a plant or herb before using it to ensure that it is not toxic, that you do not have an allergy to it, and that it does not interact with any medication you may be taking.
