The Rusbies / Is This What My Life's About Review & Interview
The Rusbies have served us a Rock n Roll, Indie, Punk with a pinch of Sca cocktail with Is This What My Life’s About. The lads from Sheffield show off their alternative style with clear influences of The Clash and The Ordinary boys. The 3-piece band has presented a vintage sound ever so flavoursome with the distinct vocals, grungy guitars plus familiar drum sounds from another influence, Arctic Monkeys. Although, I feel that it is lacking in originality, however The Rusbies have a real raw, ‘don’t care’ feel with a laddish charm which will win over many in the days to come! Is This What My Life’s About will be included on The Rusbies self-titled debut EP with three other tracks, due to be released on 22nd August.
With an EP release, a tour follows, the perfect pair! The Rusbies are playing numerous dates around the UK this August: Leicester, The Shed: 31/7/14 York, The Spread Eagle: 7/8/14 Chesterfield, Watlerstock Mod Festival: 16/8/14 – 1pm Salford, The Eagle Inn: 16/8/14 – 7pm Sheffield, The Plug: 22/8/14 – 7:30pm Nottingham, The Golden Fleece: 24/8/14

On a friendly Facebook chat I spoke to Nathan Keeble the guitarist and vox man of The Rusbies about their debut EP and rock n roll antics.
Nicky – So you play guitar and vox, you're in a 3-piece band, who are your influences, what are you all listening to at the moment?
Nathan – Tom’s mad on The Courteeners, into that Cupello bassist guy. He's got their new EP on the spin at the minute. Jake’s into his hip-hop and rap, he's been listening to Lunar C a lot. And for me on the song writing front, it's gotta be like the 70's punk seen: the clash, stuff little fingers, sex pistols. Then contemporaries, like the libertines, far white family and eagulls.
Nicky - I thought I could hear punk such as the clash when listening to you guys as well as the libertines! I could also hear an inkling of the ordinary boys? Do/did you guys ever listen to them? Would you say they're an influence?
Nathan - Yeah man ordinary boys are sick, I don't reckon I've listened to ‘em thoroughly enough to cite them as an influence.
Nicky - ah fair enough! Can you describe your sound in 5 words?
Nathan - Post mullet bono hate speech.... Nah I kid, sloppy garage rock n roll.
Nicky - Was gonna say, what a choice of words! Thinking of you all individually, how would you describe each of you, plus what you play, including yourself?
Nathan - I'm pretty silly, Tom’s quiet, Jake’s the funniest. I got into guitar when I was about 12 and started writing tunes only recently, Jake’s been playing drums since he was little.
Nicky - What do Tom and Jake both play?
Nathan - Tom play bass and Jake plays drums.
Nicky - Sweet! So you’re releasing your debut EP on 22nd August, how long have you been waiting to release it?
Nathan - Yeah! And we aren't recording till the end of this month, but we've got the songs sorted and that! We're buzzing!
Nicky - How long have you had the songs wrote for? Not surprised you're buzzing it’s exciting!
Nathan - About 3 months I’d say, and it proper is man!
Nicky - Sweet! What’s the track list for the EP, does it include tracks off Soundcloud?
Nathan - Is This What My Life's About, Paisley Dreams, Shrunken Heads and Lead The Way.
Nicky - Sounds good! Can't wait to hear the others, I've heard ‘Lead The Way’ on Soundcloud and it’s a tune! What's your most played on Soundcloud?
Nathan - Cheers loads man, and lead the way, probably my personal favourite.
Nicky - No worries! I reckon it’s my fave, could that be the first single release?
Nathan - Potentially yeah, that'd be cool.
Nicky - Is a video maybe on the cards?
Nathan - Could be aye, depends on funding’s though ey?
Nicky - True, true! You’re also touring various places around the UK right? Where are you most looking forward to playing?
Nathan - Our EP launch party in Sheff, it's gonna be banging.
Nicky - Hometown n that!Where do you see yourselves in a year’s time?
Nathan - I really couldn't say Nicky mate, hopefully we'll have a decent following by then, just gonna keep playing plenty of shows and that.
Nicky - From how many plays you've had on Soundcloud it seems you have a pretty good following already! Only good things to come ey?
Nathan - Hopefully, as S club 7 once said, reach up for the stars.
