Cropped the transparent god sprites from the new TFT set into phone wallpapers so I could put them on shuffle and pretend I'm encountering them irl every time I unlock my phone ✌️💀
Regarding Morgana
I've gotten a few comments about how I feature Morgana in my Lightcannon fic, Coming to Terms, and I realized partway through reading some of them that most people probably don't really know much about her except for some in-game tidbits from the actual MOBA, and some fanon depictions, so I wanted to clear some stuff up.
Coming to Terms is ultimately running off the canon of the Lux comic and the Mageseeker game (which was really good). The game in particular featured Morgana as a present and physical force, so I wanted to actually expand on that and flesh it out.
Let me start with the fundamentals: Morgana and Kayle are twin sisters, and in the religious canon of Demacia, Morgana is known as the Veiled Lady, and Kayle is known as the Protector. They are NOT gods. That is very important to understand. Just because they are worshipped does not make them gods. They are canonically NOT GODS.
Kayle and Morgana are the daughters of the Aspect of Justice, Mihira, who gave birth to them while she was in the Ascended (think Nasus or Azir) body of a mortal woman. They had a mortal father and a divine mother. They're more like Greek demigods who can sling actual magic.
At some point in the past, Kayle and Morgana had a disagreement about how to handle mortals. Kayle believed they should sit in judgment above mortalkind, while Morgana believed they should be more involved, walking among them, not simply lording over them. To this end, Kayle departed to the heavenly realms where the other Aspects dwell, while Morgana divested herself of much of her divinity and remained on the mortal plane
In short, Morgana is basically Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings.
For those who don't know, Gandalf is a maiar which is literally an angel. But, like Morgana, he gave up his divine power to be able to interact with mortals. Also like Morgana, Gandalf could do magic far beyond what any mortal loremaster could manage, but nothing like what a true Maiar was capable of.
It's important to remember this because Morgana is not all-knowing, all-powerful, or perfect. She makes mistakes. She misses a trick on occasion. She gave up her divinity to become more mortal, and that means she gets all of that mortality, including the 'to err is human' part.
I also had people ask: Well, why doesn't she do more? Why doesn't she act directly?
Anyone who played Mageseeker knows the answer to this because Sylas literally asks her that questionm and she tells him directly. She (paraphrasing) says: "If I reveal myself fully, then Kayle will do the same, and if she does, she will witness Demacia as it is now, and she will destroy it." And by it, Morgana means everything. Not just the king and the army and Mageseekers, but everything. Every civilian, every mage, everyone. Guilty and innocent.
Morgana has to disguise herself. She has to act obliquely, and allow mortals to largely direct their own affairs, with only small nudges from her. Because if she doesn't, she literally risks triggering an apocalypse from her gung-ho, shoot-first-and-let-mom-sort-them-out, sister.
Anyway, that's Morgana, hope it was interesting! Also I just posted a new chapter of Coming to Terms, so have fun.
Day 24 of asking Lightcannon Questions:
(Was debating on wether to ask or not so—)
Would Jinx and Lux share each others beliefs or does it not matter to them?
(Religious beliefs)
Woops I somehow did miss this one.
Religious beliefs... Well, Lux never talks about religion really in any of her voice lines etc, unless you interpret her constant chirpiness about "light" being in reference to the Demacian faith of the WInged Protectors and not her own magic.
...but she IS technically a part of a religious faith organization - the Illuminators - and we might see a bit more of that side of her in the current season.
However she seems to be more focused on community practice, going out and helping the poor and needy, living up to the ideals of her faith in her actions, rather than being preachy.
Jinx is quite cynical in her beliefs, or lack thereof, we see how dismissive and even playfully mocking she is of Janna during Season 2 Episode 3 when she fights Vi in Janna's temple, which she's gleefully defiled with her own graffiti and traps.
And of course she is. A wispy gusty wind lady who protects the children of the Undercity? When has she ever protected them in Jinx's lifetime? Where was she when Powder and Violet needed help? Ever?
So they have very different takes on religion, definitely. But religion's a funny one in a fantasy world where the gods can very literally be real physical entities walking the world. (and Runeterra at present, does not actually have 'gods', just very powerful beings of various sorts that some cultures and individuals treat as gods. Morgana and Kayle are, for example, former humans turned into Aspects and Janna is a nonhuman Spirit)
So I don't know if they'd clash over differences of faith so much as just... have them. Jinx would probably be quite cynical about Kayle and Morgana, though...
...until she meets Morgana face to face. Which could get REALLY interesting for both Jinx and Lux. I have a feeling the Veiled Lady would have Words for them both.
she's still here
