What's your take on these recent headlines about China subverting Australian and New Zealand free speech through the influence they've acquired buttressing Australia's economy (specifically mining and resource acquisition?) For me, it troubles me that it's not getting as much press in the states and worries me that developed countries may not be as resistant to Chinese influence as initially thought...

Australia has the same population as Shanghai, so a certain disparity of size makes influence inevitable.

however, the interesting part is when rich local Chinese sever ties to the Mainland, what then.
