One weird thing I can honestly say: Today I prompted a discussion on reddit about how one could theoretically cause the most death and injury if they chose to attack the New Years celebration in NYC.
Apple: Literally design their phones to become an expensive toxic brick within a few years
Gas Companies: Actively work to prevent anything being done to develop, promote or in any way make green energy sources widely known of available or affordable to anyone because slowly murdering the planet makes them millions of dollars
Big Companies: Literally dump toxic crap where it will cause serious harm to the earth and the species on it
Governments: Clearly what we need to do to save the earth is make people pay money to use carrier bags so they can actually carry their shopping home
AND BAN DRINKING STRAWS
This, my friends, is called Individualization of Responsibility, aka holding the citizens accountable for the destruction caused by corporations :/
Every piece of plastic is adding to the problem, so it is all our fault in varying degrees. Human societies have become too much of a throw away culture, and unless we take responsibility for our own waste then companies won’t change because they have no incentive to. It’s time we faced up to the fact we have all done our share of damage to the planet, and we need to make the individual effort to do our bit to try and fix it.
It’s about more than just stopping the destructive companies, it also has to be a personal effort by everyone to phase out temporary use plastic as much as we possibly can. It means making changes and sacrifices in our lives because we’re the ones currently financing these companies to do the big damage.
The idea that you can’t do more than one thing at a time doesn’t help. The idea that because one thing isn’t “good enough” means we shouldn’t do it at all doesn’t help. I’m getting rather tired of both ideas, especially when they’re mostly just used to avoid any personal responsibility.
a concept: future jake and amy having a kid BUT amy goes into labour on halloween and jake has to figure out if amy is cheating him out of the heist or if he’s actually about to have a kid
bold of you to assume she didnt plan to get pregnant exactly 9 months before halloween so that its actually both
bold of you to assume it wasnt jake who planned to get her pregnant exactly 9 months before so she’d be thrown off by contractions
bold of all of us to assume Holt didn’t pick an exact date to compliment them both so they’d have validation horniness so that jake AND amy were in disadvantage during the heist
Holt: your heteronormative lifestyle choices will bring about your demise
Words like sexist, racist, trans- and homophobe are thrown around so carelessly they’ve just become meaningless buzzwords. What would be much more helpful is if people didn’t just use these words, but actually described the reason for it.
Instead of saying “they’re a sexist” or “they’re racist”, say “they’ve claimed all women should be submissive to men” or “they oppose interracial relationships.”
Don’t just call people problematic, describe the actual problem. Because that way, if someone is in fact a problem, you’ll have a far easier time convincing people, and if they aren’t and you were just using these words as cheap methods to attack people, that’ll become clear soon enough.
Door-to-door canvassers tell stories of husbands who bully, silence and control their wives into voting conservative
To all the anti-feminists out there arguing that “we don’t need feminism women are already equal”…
“And if she needs to know how to vote, I’ll just take her in the back and beat her.”
FFS.
Tldr: “women who vote conservative clearly cant think for themselves and it must be abusive husbands that are to blame”
Aka: “were scraping the bottom of the barrel, folks”
I’m not married, nor do I have a boyfriend. Who’s strongholding ME into voting conservative? 🤔
Your father. Your brother. The patriarchy. Your teachers. Your boss. Your lack of self worth.
So basically, you’re saying that any women who don’t agree with your political views exactly actually can’t think for ourselves? How feminist of you.
No, I’m saying women who vote to remove the rights of other women need to look hard at themselves. Next?
Lmao
No you’re not - this is a motte and Bailey.
You’re saying women who vote conservative only do so because men tell them to, and that women who vote conservative do so to “remove rights” of other women at the behest of “duh patterwacky”. I guess when it became clear that women are the majority of voters, feminists had to come up with a new reason why women aren’t falling in line with their rhetoric.
But then of course you need to reframe all that to sound more reasonable and just, and here we are.
Face facts, you know absolutely NOTHING about these women and are waving boogeymen around to pigeonhole women who don’t vote the way you think they ought to.
It’s amazing, watching a feminist actively gaslight another woman and strip all agency from her just because that women disagrees with them politically. You literally CANNOT FATHOM that there are perspectives outside of your ideology and that women can of their own free will choose to disagree with it, like any good cult that dogmatically presents itself as the “only truth”.
And the icing on the cake? You just displayed exactly why women are rejecting your ideology. It’s not “duh patterwacky”, it’s assholes like YOU who alienate them and call them stupid for daring to disageewith you. 👏👏👏👏👏
This article is literally just “some examples of assholes is apparently sign of a widespread problem, but also just because I didn’t hear any tales of the opposite it apparently never happens”.
And the amount of people rushing to defend it is insane.
Being feminist and caring about women is about caring about their situations and their life decisions and what it could lead to, and that doesn’t include blindlessly accepting/encouraging all of their decisions like you think so. If a woman is throwing away her life in order to take care of her husband and kids in a house, it’s important to bring to her attention that she’s going down a wrong path and what it could lead to. It’s not harassing them at that point, it’s simply caring about them.
MODERN FEMINISM IS A CULT.
Honestly idk how anyone could read this and think otherwise. Choosing to be a homemaker and a mother as oppose to being a career woman is not “throwing your life away”. You don’t care about women, you care about making them chose YOUR way to live. Shut up.
Abortion has created a society that lets us ignore the struggles of desperate women because abortion is an ‘easy fix’. Instead of choosing to respect and comfort pregnant teenagers, we tell them to quietly get an abortion before anyone notices and judges them. Instead of changing the way our school systems work to accommodate pregnant students, we tell them to change and get an abortion. Instead of choosing to offer financial support to desperate mothers, we tell them to get an abortion because it costs less money. Instead of learning about genetic disabilities and creating a society that welcomes and accepts them, we get rid of them before they’re even born so we never have to face them.
When we tell a woman to abort, we force her to change because it’s a hell of a lot easier than changing what’s wrong with us.
Abortion is the greatest exploitation of women, as Alice Paul said. Stop telling us that abortion is the only option. We have convinced women that they cannot possibly be happy or successful unless they do something that not only does them physical and mental trauma, but also kills a child, all so we don’t have to worry about their problems.
This is oppression.
Today I literally saw somebody claim that outlawing abortion would basically mean we’re conscripting women’s bodies and forcing them to be parents. And here I thought I’d seen all the stupid arguments already.
Hey if you’re a minor don’t like,,,,,,, hit on an adult
And hey if you’re an adult don’t like,,,,, accept, receive, acknowledge, or otherwise return their hitting on you
And if an adult asks you to stop or says you’re making them uncomfortable please respect that, just because they’re older than you doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want to them because you’re a minor
Also, if you’ve hit on an adult and they react positively towards it, run far away they’re a creep
someone: Christmas is so beautiful!!!
me: EVERYTHING IS BROWN
This isn’t some cynical “everything sucks and happiness doesn’t exist” post I’m just red green colorblind
I feel like I’m going to hell for laughing at that development… I thought you were talking about the weather to begin with…
grass and trees and flowers are brown and look dead to me year round
omg
Human ignorance has gotten to the point where I can’t tell if it’s trolls anymore
people who don’t say please and thank you are ugly
You sound neurotypical.
ALSLSFLVNCMFLFLSLFKGKF yall GOTTA stop using ur illnesses as excuses for being rude dicks to people what the fuck
i don’t understand millenials who say they eat out so often because they don’t have time to cook. because like…. cooking doesn’t have to take that long?
throw some pasta on to boil, chop some tomatoes and onions to saute in the pan with a bit of seasoning– boom, hot dinner in ten minutes.
put some leftover rice in a pan with soy sauce, whatever vegetables you have on hand, and an egg. fried rice in fifteen.
heck you can do loads with browning ground meat: tacos, meat sauce, meat pie, chili, all of which take maybe 10-20min to make.
if you don’t have time to cook meat (which only takes maybe ten minutes anyways, depending on the type), buy one of those whole rotisserie chickens from the store for like $5. you can get several meals worth out of that by adding it to other recipes (shredded chicken tacos, soup, throw it in the fried rice, etc)
like you don’t have to be super experienced at cooking to make your own food and make it quickly. dinner doesn’t need to take an hour to cook every night. all you need is a quick 30m grocery trip weekly or even biweekly for staples, and a few basic seasonings (salt, pepper, chili powder, etc).
i’m sorry but i just don’t understand when so many young people complain about being broke but then eat out for half their meals. 90% of the time it’s not because you “don’t have time”, it’s because you’re convinced you can’t and won’t even try
It’s more so that we literally don’t have the money and less we don’t have time. In our case, the cost of living is what’s preventing us from grocery shopping. All of our money goes to rent, bills and gas. Food is kind of an afterthought at this point.
okay but. eating out is almost twice as expensive as cooking it yourself??? how can you not have money for groceries but enough to eat out??
i just don’t understand that logic at all
on the one hand, if you just want dinner and only have $5 on you, you can get a full meal for that much from fast food, whereas if you went grocery shopping, you couldn’t get even a small pack of chicken, a pack of buns, a bag of potatoes, a jar of pickles, a jar of mayo, and some form of drink for anywhere near that little. The price of food IS way cheaper by unit if you buy at the store, but you have to have more money on you to go shopping.
Or you could buy 2 boxes of pasta and jars of tomato sauce and an off brand bottle of soda and have two meals for the price of one from fast food.
I feel like society normalizing mothers screaming and being angry at their children as long as they don’t beat them because ‘mothers love you more than anyone else’ should stop. It hurts victims of emotional and verbal abuse because they are told to keep loving their mothers since they “don’t abandon you, give you a roof, food, and clothing” and it makes them unable to identify if they’re being abused or try to fight back because “she still loves me.” Such things really have to stop.
You say this like people really care all that much about when mothers physically abuse their children…
Yeah let’s be real, physical abuse out of mothers that isn’t straight up something from A Child Called “It” is pretty much considered normal and “strict”
I hate it when I hear other writers say “writer’s block doesn’t exist”, because it’s usually followed by stuff like:
“Really what’s going on is that you don’t know how to move forward.”
“Really what’s going on is that you’re lazy.”
“Really what’s going on is that you’re scared of failure.”
It makes about as much sense as saying “vomiting doesn’t exist”, because vomiting is typically a symptom of something else– be it a flu or food poisoning or what have you.
Just because it’s a symptom of a larger problem doesn’t mean it isn’t real. It’s still there. It still affects you.
In the same way, it’s a whole lot easier to say “Sorry I can’t come in boss, I’m throwing up” than saying “I’m sorry, boss, but I’ve got H3N2″, especially when you don’t actually know what’s causing it. Do you have food poisoning, or is this an anxiety attack, or do you have the flu? Hell if you know, but you’re definitely showing the symptom.
And even if you do know the cause, that’s not something that you should be obligated to tell other people.
I hear you, but if you stop at “writer’s block,” the vagueness can keep you from troubleshooting. Of course, I’m not saying writer’s block is a dirty word just that it is unhelpful to junior writers that need to learn how to troubleshoot.
The Nativity happened in a cave not a wooden barn pass it on
Alternate theory is that it happened in the main room of a house, given that the Greek word translated as “inn” is translated as “upper room” during the Last Supper.
Houses in that area had mangers/feeding troughs set into the floor so that families could bring their animals inside at night. The “upper room” was a guest room, because hospitality was important.
Also, Joseph would have family in Bethlehem, since that was the whole point of going there. So the theory goes that Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem after other family members (presumably traveling slower due to Mary being pregnant) and they were relegated to the equivalent of a living room.
Alternate theory that this is a super nit picky detail that I don’t think really is all that important in the long run.
Also very true
Remember that statistically women do better in female only enviroments and men do worse in male only enviroments. We don’t need them they need us.
@ all the “oh that’s unproven feminist lie blah blah blah” commenters, it’s not difficult to do some research, LOOK IT UP BUTTERCUPS.
Yeah the study is about the education system which is already so blatantly catering to girls it’s not even funny.
Wow imagine girls are doing better at something designed to be better for them?! WHAT A SURPRISE?
Oh look male only video game esports teams perform better than mixed and female only ones? AND IT’S DEFINITELY NOT BECAUSE ESPORTS CATER TO MEN!
In other news water is wet. Of course if you have something obviously benefitting a certain group that group outperforms others.
