She should have stayed inside today, maybe play some Sims ( for half an hour, get bored, watch some videos, get bored, watch TV, get bored, try playing something else, get bored ), but nope, Nath had tried to get her into healthy habits -- which, to be fair to him, does help a bit. Refreshing showers, getting out of the house just for a walk.

But in a park full of people when she’s vulnerable today -- her pickup on the inevitable has expanded when she wanted to shrink it, no longer needing to be in close proximity -- and can see what’s going to happen: girl with asthma nearly dying, man in a car crash, teenager goes missing and goes unfound, couple in a fire--

Deborah almost throws up, right as someone passes close by. She groans.

Donovan, alive after a wild night of drinking more than an entire bottle’s worth of red, red wine to himself. Didn’t even taste that great, it was an entire litre of wine, but hey, student experience and all that. He doesn’t care for the hype. He was promised 50s’ America diner-esque strawberry milkshake with strawberry bits in it. What a scam.

Alive, but head throbbing like discotheque strobe light. Where’s the paracetamol?

He hears noise from downstairs -- Charles and Zach, probably, coming in from wherever to play on a shoot-em-up. Might as well get up, and scrounge in his desk for that paracetamol.

After successfully not-choking on water-and-pills, Don gets dressed -- even if it’s just Saturday, he doesn’t relish the idea of just sitting in his PJs all day -- and heads downstairs.

They have a visitor, squished in between Charles and Zach.

“Mornin’, fuckheads,” is his greeting. Zach just flips him off; Charles laughs and introduces Min.

“Mornin’ to you, non-fuckhead.”

Someone new at number 65. Well, they’ve been their for... a day, or two ( a week? ), but still new compared to Richard and Doris who moved down south to live with their kids. Yeesh, that’ll wear on old bones, no doubt.

As far as Dandy can tell, it might as well only be one person -- dude? maybe? -- living there. They’d say hello of their own volition, eventually.

As it is, they just so happen to meet as they’re helping Mum unpack the shopping from the car. So much for own volition as Mum waves like the mad woman she is ( oh, she’s just sociable! ) at their new neighbour. “Hello, neighbour! How ya doin’?” Dandy waves alongside her, closing the boot of the car. “What’s the haps, chap?” Normally, that’d get them a weird look, but Mum’s doing her best not to react. A little bit of strange ain’t bad, just people being stiff, she always says.

            nightmares are not strangers in this room. things had been better since they’d started sharing a bed, but they both knew you couldn’t just shut off years of trauma. even with sleep spells, potions, and charms against the worst dreams- they still came some nights. either he would toss and turn with visions of hell twisting at his insides, or he’d feel her crying out in her sleep. “mary. mary, hey-” she’s thrashing in the sheets, and he does his best to pin her down without hurting her. “hey, wake up. it’s me. it’s okay.” she looks- terrified. when her eyes open the hazel is eclipsed by pink, and for a moment he feels his own magic responding. a flash of green that he hopes helps to calm her down. when she’s finally looking at him, he relaxes. pulling her into his arms and pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “it’s okay. you’re okay. it was just a dream...”
