First of all, I love food. It's really hard to disappoint me with food. I think more often than not it's bad customer service that I get irritated with rather than food.
With that said, I love The Smith.
Service - I have been into The Smith a handful of times for breakfast and lunch and I have nothing but good things to say. They are friendly and inviting every time I walk in the door and are very accommodating. The servers are attentive and prompt and I always see someone buzzing around and talking to guests instead of them all grouped up by the servers stand chatting with each other, unlike other restaurants I've been to.
I work with a hotel here in NYC and am constantly sending people over to The Smith for breakfast. I truly think they are one of the better establishments among the plethora of breakfast options here in the city.
Servers like Bryson provide what I believe to quintessentially be what good customer service looks like.
Food - While the food that I have experienced isn't extravagant or "modern" it is very good. It's simple, locally sourced comfort food. I often come in and get the "eggs any style" because it's close to what my own mother would make me for breakfast. Two eggs any style as the name suggests, fried country style potatoes tossed in smoked paprika, applewood smoked bacon and a light spring green salad, although I'd prefer to have an arugula salad tossed in olive oil and lemon juice with this meal. Speaking of the dressing, while it is good, I think it's a little heavy on the oil with not enough vinegar, but all in all it's very good.
Refreshment - I am a coffee aficionado. I have been a member of the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) for 9 years now and have entertained over a hundred different ways to make coffee, but at The Smith, I always get the Mao Feng Shui green tea produced and packaged by the restaurant. Back in 2009 I spent a year in Guizhou south central China and gained a true appreciation for aged green teas. While the Mao Feng Shui isn't an aged Oolong or Green Tea, it is still very good in my opinion. It is light and refreshing unlike the darker black teas we often see in restaurants.
Cost - Ok, so most when thinking about visiting a restaurant will think about, palette, location and price before anything else. The dining price at The Smith is very reasonable. I have never received a bill and been like "Oh hell no".
Conclusion - For all the reasons listed above I will continue to visit the smith and send as many people through their doors as I am able.
Thank you for your continued excellent service.
