MUTATION
Peak Human Condition - It’s exactly what you think it might be; being at peak condition, having your bodily functions at the maximum limit of human condition. The effects of this mutation is permanent, and having to live with that affected Thess less at a younger age than it did as she got older. She’s a girl of temperament, she has been called a “storm inside a girl”, and due to the severe damage she is capable of doing to her surroundings, she has to constantly check her temper, especially considering she’s prone to violence. Where someone else would punch you and you might have a bruise, Thess could punch you and the effects would be akin to having been hit with a sledgehammer.
BACKGROUND
When she was a young girl, born in Dublin, Ireland, nothing seemed too wrong about her, or her twin brother. She was the kind of girl that loved the outdoors, who insisted on piano lessons, and building blanket and pillow forts with as much precision as a young child could. The older she got, however, the quieter she became, and the cheerful little girl would grow up to become a very jaded young woman, who saw the world and the people in it for what and who they were.
No one suspected anything odd about her until lower secondary school, aside from the fact that she was a loner, someone who, aside from her brother, Atticus, did not have friends. The first time she punched a girl in the face for insulting her brother, she was suspended. Not so much because of the fact that she had punched, but the damage she had done to the girl’s face. Witnesses would claim there had been no weapons involved, but that was the beginning of it all; people would talk, and whispers would follow her in the halls.
Her peculiarities were now in the light, and the things that her family took for granted (her reflexes, her strength, the way wounds would heal faster on her than on her brother) were now scrutinised. Some people were interested, but most others scared and confused, and some would even go as far as to “test her limits”, employing rocks, taunts, or any other means to antagonise her. It wasn’t long before officials ended up on her parents’ doorstep, with the request to hand her over for testing - her parents, being who they were, refused. That’s when the vans started to stake out outside their home, and once Thess graduated, her father handed her a ticket to America, with the instructions to stay with her grandparents for an indefinite amount of time. She wasn’t afraid for her health, but her parents definitely were.
How she ended up in Mutant Town is a vague memory to her, having been there for almost seven years now. The garage was the first few places she tried to apply at, simply because mechanical aptitude was something that ran in her family, cars and bikes being things she was taught about from an early age. But even with the garage employees, Thess is guarded and reserved. They would call her stubborn and truculent to an extent - but Thess knows, with the fact that her condition is permanent, if she doesn’t maintain her temper (that is often aggravated by people), bad things could happen to her surrounding, things her family would probably never forgive her.
Regardless, though, she begrudgingly accepts that she’s meant to stay alone, and takes her mind off her thoughts and emotions by staying busy.
