Flying and showing up in England

So I took off from America Friday the 12th of February to head to London on an overnight flight. Obviously there was much excitement, but there was also an insanely long line to get through security. Luckily it didn’t take too horribly long to get through and I got to the other side just fine. I found my gate without much trouble and killed a little time in the two airport book stores that I found before heading back to my gate to charge my phone and wait for boarding.

Here’s where I had a small hiccup. My ticket said “Seat Assigned at Gate” which at first made me pretty nervous because I had never had that before, so I was like “do I go up to the desk? Will they call my name? What am I supposed to DO??” but then they started calling people’s names to come get their seat assignments, so I relaxed some, thinking they’d call my name soon enough. Well then the plane started boarding. And they still hadn’t called my name. I’m trying to stay calm thinking “It’s okay, they’re still calling a couple names, so maybe they’re just finishing up calling out the economy class. They’re only boarding the priority seats and first class, so I have time.” Eventually, when they got to Zone 2 of Economy class seating, I finally went up and showed them my ticket, asking for my seat assignment. The lady there just went “Oh yeah, here’s your ticket.” and handed it to me. While this was a huge load off of my shoulders, I’m kind of curious as to why my name wasn’t called at all. I’d like to think this woman looked down at the list of names to pick one, saw my ridiculously long Dutch last name and just went “Nope, not today” and put my ticket back down, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, the flight itself was fine. My seat was next to a girl meeting their friend for the first time in London, so it was kind of cool to sit there and listen to her nervously ramble on about meeting her friend and all of the excitement that went along with it, but it was hard to sleep because I couldn’t sprawl out like I did last time I flew to London. The view going up at night though, was gorgeous.

I managed a little sleep on the train, but not much, and after going through the boarder and all that, I finally was able to see B again =DDD

After a train ride and short bus ride, then a walk to her flat, we settled in some, then went right back out to go to Westfield Stratford City (the mall) and went straight in to get bubble tea at Bubbleology. (a.k.a. the coolest place ever to make your drink, bubble tea or not. Seriously, they wear lab coats and have a robot drink sealer thing.) Naturally this happened:

ANYWAY!!! So we wandered around the mall a little bit. Usually not a good thing to do - walking around one of the biggest malls you can find on the Saturday right before Valentine’s day.... but we still had fun. We went to the Disney store and I almost lost B (lol) then we went down to Foyle’s bookstore where this creepy lady touched my butt as she walked by and proceeded to apologize with a massive smile on her face. Let’s practice what we learned in kindergarten and keep our hands to ourselves, okay? That was an experience I never want to live with again. The store didn’t even have the good I wanted. Sad day. At least next door was Hotel Chocolate which is always an amazing treat (pun intended). I feel kinda bad for the guy who rang up my purchases, though, because I paid with my card and then he had to check my card, and my ID, and have me sign a piece of paper and it was like as soon as I’d show him one, he had to ask for the other, so I feel kinda bad for him since it seemed to be more than what he has to usually ask for. Oh well, I got chocolate. I regret nothing.

Okay, I regret a lot of things, but none of them have anything to do with purchasing that chocolate.

Once that was all done, B and I came back to her home because I was feeling the energy quickly leaving my body. Amazing what flying and lack of sleep will do to a person. Anyway, we came back to her place and got a little settled, ate some food and then we started writing back and forth. Naturally my eyelids weren’t cooperating and after I kept nodding off between responses, I finally got into PJ’s and went to bed. So there! Fairly uneventful, but still a good day. =]

I am in London!! And I am safe, but extremely tired. Pictures will be going up tomorrow, but for now I will say security took forever only because the line was very long, but actually getting through was fine. Overall, the entire thing went fairly well and I’m pleased. As I said before, pictures will come tomorrow along with a more in-depth explanation of what all went on today, but for now, I must sleep.
