Went to @seattleartmuseum today to see two shows that are closing soon and also the second floor galleries that were recently rehung under the title “American Art: The Stories We Carry.” The goal is to bring a more diverse look at art in SAM’s collection. It’s a great show with pieces in dialogue with each other in a way that highlights the various cultures that live in the Northwest and America. I liked this piece in particular, “Blanket Stories: Three Sisters, Four Pelts, Sky Woman, Cousin Rose, and all My Relations,” by Marie Watt. Blankets hold a special place in Native communities. They are given away to honor big life events. This stack of blankets anchors a gallery and tells many stories. The third photo is a return to John Grade’s “Middle Fork” in the SAM lobby.
