Natasha never looked out at the crowd before she started her dance. She could hear them well enough, the dull murmur of their chatter making its way past wall and curtain.

She didn't let herself go over the dance in her head.  Her cue was so ingrained she could hardly miss it. And she knew this dance, had practiced it often enough that it was writ in her muscles and tendons. There would be no mistakes. The dancer reminded herself this, as she tried to push down the nerves she could never quite erase.

To distract herself, she turned to Jayne, a slight smile playing over her lips. "It sounds like a full house tonight. We'll eat well after this show. Do you think there will be any fools in this crowd who send flowers? Hoping the ballerinas will notice them?"
