Unlike most sightings, this one wasn't just about strange lights in the sky. The witnesses claimed the encounter left them with severe physical injuries and ultimately led to a lawsuit against the U.S. government.
Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Vickie's seven year old grandson, Colby, said they spotted a massive diamond shaped object hovering above the road. Flames blasted from its underside, producing such intense heat that the car became too hot to touch. Betty later claimed she had to use her coat to open the door because the handle was burning hot.
As they watched, the object reportedly rose into the sky and was surrounded by numerous military style helicopters. The witnesses believed the helicopters were escorting or pursuing the mysterious craft, raising questions about whether the military knew more than it admitted.
In the hours and days that followed, the trio reported suffering nausea, vomiting, painful skin burns, blistering, hair loss, and extreme weakness. Betty Cash's condition was said to be the most severe, requiring multiple hospital stays. Believing the object had exposed them to intense radiation or another unknown source of energy, they filed a lawsuit seeking compensation from the U.S. government.
The case attracted national attention, but investigators found no evidence linking the reported helicopters to any branch of the U.S. military.
